Short version:

compulsory daily check. Tuesday check will be more in depth.

Managers will have to run defects past an out of office centre to determine of a van is roadworthy or not.

It should actually improve things.
Only bit that gets me is the more in depth checks on a Tuesday. I know it's apparently a time thing but Monday should be the day at the beginning of the week we should be doing the checks
If RM stay with keeping the quiet day on Mondays & the busier day on Tuesdays, which is the reverse of what it has been for years, then I have no problem with doing the full check on Mondays.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

Surely not Celgar? If I carried out my Main Vehicle Checks..... Fuelled Up ....Put air in the tyres ..... Gave the Cab a quick clean out ....Cleaned my Lights & Number Plate ....... Finished throwing off the bulk of Households ....... I'd never be able to go home even earler than usual! :whistle

I save those sort of jobs to Bulk out my day when I've really not got enough to do but it makes me look busy. :cuppa

You'll be too busy prepping all your D2Ds on a Monday. . . I presume that's why the longer weekly check will be on a Tuesday.

The PDA daily checks and which day will be the weekly check aren't up for negotiation by the way. It's fixed. So unless RM change their minds based on the 300 office trials, it'll be Tuesdays for your weekly PDA van check (and of course the shorter PDA-driven van check on all the other days that the van is used).

Hope they have plenty of vans in reserve because I think half our fleet will have to be grounded on day 1.
In a way it's the same as yorks. In theory they're meant to be checked before use but in practice they never are as there isn't the time. If we we're they there'd probably be none left as they'd all be taken out of use
And HCT's - when did you last see a manager carrying out a weekly check on a HCT?
Shouldn't it be the postie who checks the HCT then reports any faults to the manager?
Correct but managers also have a responsibility see below:

High Capacity Trolley [HCT] Mark 2 SSOW Nov 10, Revised July 12
Manager’s responsibility
It is the manager’s responsibility to ensure that:

All users have received training prior to use and a training record is filed locally

.......

Carry out a weekly condition check on all HCT, record this on the weekly condition and collect/file all weekly check lists for all HCT’s

Can only be a good thing, having the time to do the checks properly and proper action taken should a van not be fit for purpose, and not be fobbed off with it’s ok,happy to my checks in an empty yard when everyone is on yet another flyer!

the Mon - sat PDA van checks will be inputting the mileage at beginning and at the end of the day
Tuesday is the full van check which takes about 10 Min's ....... any defects you input onto the PDA and bring to attention of the Manager who will say it's safe to drive or not ! and you then fill out a PMT-1 form and put the serial number into the PDA , as instructed .

The onus has been shifted onto our Managers . if the van fails or explodes for as long as you have done your job , it's now down to the manager to take the Hit .

This new procedure we can use for our benefit .... If it takes time you either take the overtime or bring mail back

don't be afraid of it ! use it to protect your job

It has in a way, the onus legally will also be on you as well no matter what the manger says. I always give vans a very good going over before I use them, I always seem to get the decent ones now for some reason :dance

Will there be a function on the pda to get photos of all the damage on some of the vans, I personally take photos on my phone if I get a random van to protect myself from any accusations. The fleet really is shocking and RM are going to be in for a rude awakening if even 50% of people actually start doing these checks how they should have been doing them all along.

Tuesday is the day that I claim most pressure overtime generally. Why they think we have more time on a Tuesday I'll never know.

Why do you say that? The checks are the same as we do now, and so is the procedure to follow if you have a defect which makes the van unusable.

Because I would take a punt and say the majority of van checks don't get done and this app thing means that you'll at least have to go through the motions which will lead to more people doing it properly because you might as well which will lead to more vans being flagged up as FUBAR.
