This situation is what PDA actuals were meant to sort out. Instead they spend hrs literally pawing over them to subtract 3 mins off your overtime coz you were stopped for some reason for a minute three times last week.mjd24 wrote: ↑21 Feb 2021, 16:57Its actually quite shocking really. Its the same in my office, some of the HCT duties can literally stroll around no matter how busy a day it is and it will never take more than 4 hours. Then there are walks where you can run around it on the quietest of Tuesdays and it will always take at least 4.5 hours.Coffee lover wrote: ↑21 Feb 2021, 12:53No! I had arguments with managers about this, a lot of walks mainly driving duties have increased by about 45 minutes per day but some hct rounds which are nearly all shops and businesses have decreased by about and hour I know because I covered one for 2 weeks in January as I used to do it and it was so easy it took 3 hours yet they have a full timer doing it, yet my usual walk takes 4.5 to 5 hours a day with so many large parcels, I even cut off regularly but managers let these hct walks finish at 12 o’clock it makes no sense at allSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑19 Feb 2021, 19:27Don't the firms walks get lapsing to make up for the number of business that are shut during lockdown?Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑19 Feb 2021, 15:49If you're on a business duty you won't have seen the increase in parcels that town duties have seen, half your businesses could also be shut.
Its really demoralising.

Ours has loads left in every day of the week.andyman606 wrote: ↑21 Feb 2021, 14:02Every office is different at ours the part timers do their full hours on crap rounds and lapsing the worst bits of a duty, full timers generally an easy round plus a pathetic bit of lapsing picked on the old seniority again finish 1-2 hours early each day,
Support drivers used to finish 2 hours early each day now with more parcels 1 hour early at least.
Firm's duties are all shut so they are now taking an hour at most so they were leaving 3-4hours early each day(used to be 2-3) now they are finally forced to do 30minutes to 1hr more work after much whining moaning and tantrums.....to avoid this most try to do another firm drive as overtime for 7 hours pay for 1 hrs work so they don't have to do the lapsing frankly unbelievable that this crap goes on whilst they berate a part timer for not lapsing over their time whilst they pay 14.5 hours to a firm driver for 5hrs work....we have one guy who is teacher's pet and gets paid two postman's wages each week by doing two firms duties each day and still finishes in 5 hrs been doing this for year's for nearly £55k a year. Our place is corrupt it's a joke which isn't funny but this is facilitated by our managers that leave at 10:30 and area managers that don't care or union staff that just listen to the protected senior made guys. What yer gonna do start a revolution......thats not in the local agreements....I really hope the piss takers fall flat on their fat faces big wallets with the scan in/out but I doubt jack s**t will change the rot started with the part time shift and manipulation of seniority along with protection of the face fits crew from lazy corrupt management and their connection to the old boy network in Royal mail.
Enjoy your day off some of us will be working Sundays soon I wonder which ones.....peace out brothers

At the moment....
Going home early on an easy day will result in you having to do extra at some point in that week, which is slightly preferable to paying you the hours you actually worked.
At the moment it's an intelligence gathering exercise.
If the figures look in their favour it's banking hours.
Yes it's Saturday and of course you can go home early but next week you're due us an hour so you and a couple of your mates can cover that duty on Monday on top of your own to make up.
It's just an extension of the gig economy.
The next logical step from that is they decide when to send you home.
You turn up for work and they've decided to lapse your duty because they've got hours in the bank but you can always make up the time next week or lose 8 hours your choice.
You get paid when there's work available and you get sent home when there isn't.

No. That's not what I mean. You have a contract hrs to work in a week. Why should one work 38 hrs and another 34 or whatever, and still get paid the same. Everyone should be expected to work at least their contracted hrs for the week.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑21 Feb 2021, 19:41Well it's not really is it?rambo1 wrote: ↑21 Feb 2021, 19:21And rightly so.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑18 Feb 2021, 21:55I think you're probably right.ihatedogs wrote: ↑18 Feb 2021, 21:40This is merely opinion/conjecture, but I expect the eventual reality of this will be flexibility. Everyone should be expected to be present throughout their contracted hours. It will be up to management to find work for you to do during those hours.
Those who accept the offer of leaving early and making up the time on busier days will want their heads examining.

I get working the hours you're paid for. I really do.
But, what incentive does a hard worker have any more, when he sees people laughing and messing about on a morning, taking hours longer doing a walk you know you could complete in much less.
It's counter productive.
Yes you could argue a manager should be on top of these issues, but how do you ensure people are doing a fair days work- someone quantify a fair days work when there are so many variables.
And don't get me started on the issue of unbalanced walks- from what I've heard the DOM say about revisions and PDA data, it's another clusterfuck round the corner.

I know but it's where you inevitably end up if you start down the banking hours road.

When the majority of a duty is firms, in my office it is a driving duty, and they have to do large packets after they have cleared. So yes they do lapse, just packets though.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑19 Feb 2021, 19:27Don't the firms walks get lapsing to make up for the number of business that are shut during lockdown?Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑19 Feb 2021, 15:49If you're on a business duty you won't have seen the increase in parcels that town duties have seen, half your businesses could also be shut.

I agree. The trouble with the majority of Posties is that we are naive, and too trusting.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑22 Feb 2021, 08:53I know but it's where you inevitably end up if you start down the banking hours road.
BAM reality strikes and we get 12 minutes taken off each day (and that's what will probably happen again). Everytime WE assume RM will take the "Common Sense" approach some Accountant will sharpen his pencil, some Chancer at RM HQ will see a chance to get some Brownie Points, and we'll get shafted .... again!
At present we've got this TRUST survey going on .... I'd like to be Optimistic about the results because I feel the New CEO does want to try to improve things .... However do we give them another chance... or not? I feel RM need to build more bridges than we do.

As you know better than most RM is looking to get mail to DOs later, and later (pushing for even later Duty starts). So I'm sure we can look forward to starting ANOTHER 12 minutes later?

If you start 12 mins later, sorting doesn't get done till 12 mins later, you don't get out till 12 mins later and guess what, you probably finish 12 mins later, all else being equal. That's what royal mail planners don't get.Dorset Plodder wrote: ↑22 Feb 2021, 12:08You're right there SP. Re: Scanning in & out
I agree. Do you know anyone that's actually working an Hour Less? Most Posties are still working the same hours in my DO .... RM have never actually taken any work out (because we should have saved that hour in Revisions/Efficiency). We all know that's Bullshit and Management just "Massage" the figures to make them fit.
Instead we all just book an hours extra pressure to do the same Old Duty
Like many things in this Business you get the feeling Management never really wants to fix any problems, or improve anything, it's all just Smoke & Mirrors to make it look like the systems working.
