DirtyHarry, I was questioning the relevance of the reply saying that the school was over 300 miles away and why should he sign.

But I think the main problem is that I thought it was your post when it was postie28's. For a minute I thought I had gone mad. Sorry.

I was saying it was the same for us during our dispute. We wanted support from whatever part of the country. Not just what affected us locally. I don t care if the school is 300 miles away I have signed the petition with pleasure.

Too many people are wrapped up in their small local world and do not see that what affects people 300 miles away now might affect them 1, 2 3, or 10 years down the line.

My apologies too, greynut, we all make mistakes. Agree with you 100%, mate. Closures of facilities like schools, wherever in Britain they occur, are just not on, and if the least we can do to try and stop closures like this,is to sign a petition, well, I'll do it, everytime. :Very Happy

just to clear any possible confusion. the plan is to close the school permantly and transfer pupils to another location miles away. apparently sorn is a little bit isolated.
watch out. there may be a dom about

Perhaps the 'tiny community' of Sorn should seek assistance fronm the DVLC in Swansea who have plagurised their village name for their Statutory Off Road Notification.

A small village, located alongside the River Ayr, it has won British and European awards for it's tidy environment and floral displays.
The whole village, from it's public areas, including the pinic area by the river and the domestic gardens are maintained to an extemely high standard - well done the folks of Sorn.
A former mill village, the church dates back to the 17th century. Nearby is Sorn Castle which dates back to the 15th century. This is occassionaly open to the public in the summer months.
So already we can see its a real place with real people wand real needs. Just think how much the Goverment hate the thought of people knowing about a place like this as the cuts they plan are harder when it is a little more than a name on a map.Does anyone know anything else about Sorn? Please sign as it WILL be us next!

:cry :cry :cry :cry :cry :coolr
There was no problem about a school in Victorian times when all the children worked in the mill.

hi all. just a quick update for all those who signed petition.
although the petition drew a pretty poor response from govt, my cousin up in scotland tells me that due to the amount of opposition to school closure it will now remain open :dance . so a massive thank you to all who signed from myself and all my family up in bonny scotland. :Applause

not so far as i know.
apparently over 600 people e-mailed east ayrshire council asking them to reconsider. well over 200 people signed downing street petition. not bad for a community of only 300. nice to see a tiny community win a fight with councils.
