This is the experience in my office:
March - December: Insane levels of parcels. TRIPLE or more compared to pre-covid levels. Looking back I have no idea how we did it
January: Slight drop off from Xmas, still easily DOUBLE pre-covid levels of parcels
Feb: Another drop-off, probably now under DOUBLE, but still significantly higher than pre-covid. Just seems like it's gone back to 'normal' after the horrendous year we've had!
Yes the mail and parcels are definitely not like they were between March and December. I think a lot of bad management and some lazy staff members make it look worse than it is. The figures as a whole now are no different to any other January.

I know January and feb are always a lull in terms of Parcels and letters but do we think we will get back to the levels of parcels we were receiving from march to Dec 2020?
I know we are missing many packages bound from Asia, due to them being held on covid restrictions, but the parcels are near to normal levels again and not at "xmas level " everyday. Dont come on here saying you cant complete your duty still....etc. The point is the parcels and letters have notably dropped in last month. Its a great thing that we got that CWU deal voted in coz nothing else would ever be ob table if the levels continue to drop as they have since negotiations.
I personally could never do all parcels and 1 duty a month ago but now im finishing b4 time if i did it at normal speed. In fact id say parcels have dropped off more than they were b4 the pandemic🤔
Ive been in job 31 years in 7 different locations across Liverpool n lancs and worked with Work load assessments and predictions with managers ,as well as framework and full revisions , so i do know my stuff when it comes to how much mail each office gets and how long a duty should take..
Are you taking the pxxs? Really? You need to work in our office!!! 10 he days to finish here on a wed and Thurs.
There has never been a 10 hour delivery anywhere.
If your taking 3 hours from 7 to get out then thats really slow prep and load. And then you would have 7 hours . No chance mate. Your talking to a postie of 31 years and a revision specialist ,wrap champion and route planner expert. No 6 hour walks in the country unless your doing both🤔
I wont tell your boss the truth tho. 🤣
Im proud to be coz i know the business inside out. Ive done everything you can in Royal Mail and also studied hard at Health and safety and represented trade union.
So i know Bullshitters when i see them. Most have the "Hardest walks in the world" despite being senior to most staff and picking that duty especially coz it was the best. ;liar ;liar

You appear to know a lot about every office in the country
Yeah, thats what I thought! Most rural deliveries at our office are 8am start , after half our break we are heading out from the office about 10.30 at the earliest on Wednesday and Thursday. Most take 5hr minimum on a 'light' Saturday for example ,plus another 20 mins for rest of break. On Wednesday and Thursday, this is more like 7 hrs to 71/2 hrs including break, then there's an extra 10 min break to add on the end. There are also van shares that start an hr earlier at 7am and don't get back till 4-5pm. Maybe it's just our office that's crappy planned , but I do know it's the busiest Feb I've known in over 20 yrs, ATM it easily tops pre covid Christmas pressure.
Nope its just the staff stretching out a duty for overtime. PDA actuals and scanned log in and log outs should eliminate most of the time wasted. WPCs are there to help staff see why they are so slow at prepping but hardly ever get used by DOMs. Once any frame is sorted then it would take 30 mins at max to bag and load. Any delivery route would take 5 hours at max and thats not running around.
Any delivery route in the country? How would you know that have you done them all? Get over yourself.
My delivery is taking 5 hours 45 mins from first letter to last not taking into account travel time. I’m not slow and don’t mess around on delivery talking to customers etc.

If parcels were back to anything near pre-covid levels with the added costs of coronavirus restrictions I doubt the business would be forecasting profits well in excess of £500 million for 20/21.

There was as expected a post Christmas dip which lasted about 2 weeks until Jan/Feb pay weekend kicked in and then off we went again.

Mail volumes are increasing again as they always do as we head towards the end of the financial year.

Planners...mostly useless in my experience.

You need to come and sort out our office then, coz it ain't like that here. Trust me, if PDA actuals were saying I'm slow, they would be on it like a ton of bricks.

Time for a Boring Tip!

If you highlight the previous quotes (not the bit you're commenting on) and press the backspace bar .... it'll delete all the stuff you don't need/want. :thumbup

It makes it a lot easier to follow a discussion .... instead of having 5 previous quotes ... with a "I think your talking our of your Butt" comment at the end. Enjoy :cuppa

Parcel levels are way down in my sorting office - around half the level compared to March-October 2020 (I can't include Christmas as that was exceptionally crazy). Still above average compared to pre-COVID levels, but thousands of people in my area have lost jobs and they just aren't ordering online like before.

The number of Angard staff are dropping off accordingly, I'm one of the lucky few being called in. Won't be long until I'm gone too...

Packets are still exceptionally busy. Still at least a third higher than pre covid times at my place. The thing that is going to rock the boat is once we start doing attendance calls properly. In my opinion levels will remain similarly high. Getting signatures/people being out will possibly add 20 or30 minutes to my delivery time.

Wrap stands for Walk Risk Assessment Platform. It's a piss poor Excel program for Logging the walk risks. I could show you how to be an expert on it but you would have to set aside at least ten and maybe even fifteen minutes.

I was told that it's going to be ditched and incorporated into the new Route *MANAGER* program.

We have a walk in one of the SPDO offices that i cover. The actual walk itself is OK it covers a rural area and the business units it doesn't have a lot of delivery points but it still takes a good 3/4 hours to do but with it being the only van in the office it has to take ALL oversize for the HCT rounds & there is 6 of them with each having min 550 houses.. 2 have 750... So that's the oversize packets for over 3.7K houses in total. The area is compact enough but you have to load the van a good 3/4 times on a busy day. I have covered it and you start at 7:00.. youll be out the office by 8:30 and you will be finished at 6/7 oclock if its really busy.

Normal busy day is 8:20 - 3:30/4:00 no break thats over 7 hours
Quiet day is 8:00 - 2:00... 6hr delivery span on a light tuesday

There is definitely 6 hour walks but i think you ll find them mostly in rural/spdo offices not the main ones.

Slight reduction in parcels in recent weeks but nothing that would allow shared van/park and loop to be achievable if/when it returns.

Here's an idea. The day you all tell the gaffer that no-ones going over time on that duty anymore will be the last day you only have one van at the DO.

I bet that duty still has all the Old Arguments about what an "Over-sized Parcel" is? Unless you've got a Strong/Confident Postie on that one the whole Office will be taking the piss... throwing out everything for him to deliver. :no no

When we still used the Bikes I remember one miserable old git that used to bring any parcels back to you (even if they were legitimately Over-sized) and try to cram them into your already full bags. Normally when you'd left your frame to get a cuppa or have a pee.

One time I actually caught him stamping on the letters to make more room, I s**t you not, we work with Morons! :cuppa

We have plenty of walks in our office over 6 hours walking.
The ones that are left from the day before with double mail as office staff cut to the bone
