Customers

Why do some 'customers' feel they have a right to be abusive. This video is from the USA, but I've seen similar behaviour many times in BO's here. Don't know how the counter staff can put up with it.

BO Counter staff aren't PHGs. And the ones working in 'franchised' (ie privatised) counters are on poor wages and conditions, so I wouldn't blame them for being 'miserable'.

I'm not a PHG and working in Callers I have to put up with foul mouthed customers all the time, perhaps something should be done about it like barring them :pray
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Very sweeping statement, and sweeping statements are a pet peeve of mine.

Everyone is an individual and deserve respect from others. Abusive language or behaviour is the last resort of a bully and IMHO should not be condoned in any form. It customers want respect they should show it as well.

We have long had a notice about mutual respect and abusive behaviour and it does seem to work for the greater part of the time. I haven't heard of any horror stories for some considerable time. Though when I worked in the callers office I certainly had my moments - you know the shutters go down at 6, some d1ck head rushes in without a card, "the wife's phoned to say there might be something to pick up, can you check" - :left: yeah right.

I saw a guy acting like this in Tesco last week about 15 minutes from closing time. The staff handling him were putting up with so much s**t and I couldn't believe how calm they were considering they were at the end of what was probably a long day. Personally I'm glad we have a screen is the callers office as it protects people like this from my fists.

Originally it was just a counter, we didn't have a screen at all, but I never felt threatened. I actually enjoyed working in there, I did morning and afternoon shifts at one point or another BUT having been in there recently it's a whole different ball game - what with the later starts and the increase in packages it is an horrendous atmosphere. I could imagine someone getting really stressed with lost and misplaced packages if they weren't used to that environment.

Or the postie writes the wrong street name on the card(not blaming the postie, we all have blonde moments), after 10 mins you say to the customer you can't find a parcel for that address and they eventually say they live at a different road! Please don't put A4 signed fors down as a packet and write tube on the card if it is a tube, thanks :wave :wave
