They've been installed in my local mail centre for months, just not is use yet but should be a quick process to get them up and running.

The main issue I have with them is not what data (and savings) they potentially capture.

It's how those savings are implemented.

well this is my way of thinking , is that the company and the cwu has basically said it wont affect pay or any ghost o/t  , but i will put money on it all the ghost o/t and early finishes ( starting early for free , not using the methods , not taking meal breaks ) will be clocked by the company on how many hours can be saved in the yearly revisions in offices which the cwu have agreed to so it will be just a matter of time then s**t will hit the fan :thumbup , but heho the golden carrot was dangled :arrrghhh

There's going to have to be a massive change in the mindset of all of us, but specifically the delivery guys. If we're clocking in/out then there's no point starting before your time, not taking a break etc.
Ghost overtime will end, there's no doubt about that, you can't make deals with the Dom if you're clocking out at the end of the day.
I don't think it's a stretch to say there'll be some conduct cases for fraudulent claiming of overtime

There needed to be a massive chance in mindset years ago and this is the end result. I will give it a couple of weeks before the sackings start for clocking your mates out whilst they have already been home for afew hours.

• Scan In/Out data will not be used for the automatic reduction of contractual pay or allowances based on data captured, or to reduce overtime pay where a (verbal) contract has been agreed with the manager prior to commencement.

Ghosting won't stop. That's why it says as long as there is an verbal agreement it won't affect OT payments.

RM still depend on people doing OT. It’s been that way for the last 30 years I’ve been in the job. They aren’t going to shoot themselves in the foot and make OT unattractive to do now are they!?

That’s my theory too. Don’t think they are interested in targeting individuals. They just want the data to use in yearly revisions as proof of how many hours can be taken out of an office. It’s going to be very hard for any local reps to defend duties being cut from the office if the data says 200 hours a week(or however many) are being paid for but not worked.

I think they already believe there are big savings to be made based on what the PDA actuals will have told them over the last few years.

One example. Several months ago on what seemed like a particularly heavy Monday I said to our DOM that we could have done with a few more people in early on overtime to do IPS. His response was “why should I pay out overtime when last Monday across the whole office people finished a total of 60 hours early?”. They already have a good idea of what’s going on and what the results of clocking in and out will show.

It’s actually a smart approach from their point of view. Target individuals and people will just start doing the job properly and work till their time. Better to let people carry on as they are, collect the data and make permanent savings further down the line.

Like most things in this agreement the actual details for the implementation of AHDC have still to be agreed.

These are "guiding principles".
We'll have to wait and see what the final guidelines allow and don't allow but I doubt Royal Mail are going to implement this very expensive technology just to save some paperwork.
