P/T have got a terrible deal here. I mean just wait until 5 day letter delivery, P/T and floats are basically screwed, god knows where they will end up.
RM will still need people to cover annual leave, sick etc.

To reply to an earlier point it’s not about stitching anyone up. But again, if I’m only on 5 hours a day it doesn’t matter to me. If Bob shouts the loudest and doesn’t get any calls added to his duty, great, when I do my 5 hours I’ll do what I can. If Graham who’s always back an hour early cos he starts early but otherwise isn’t vocal and gets an hour added on, great, when I do my 5 hours I’ll do what I can.

Performance via the PDA - again that’s not an issue for me. If I’m starting and finishing on the street I can only get going once the bags are with me....’HTP we can see from your PDA you were stood on the street corner for half an hour....well boss we don’t have pouch boxes anymore and I was waiting for my next bag.’ I am a fast walker anyway and have been since I was young. I can only start my next bag when it’s dropped off with me. Alternatively if I’m allowed to start from the office, that makes my outdoor time even shorter.

No sir, if there’s anyone going to be shafted by the level of work expected by the new agreements it’s not those on 5 hour days.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

As a part timer it cannot get any worse. Its the full timers with the easy walks who will have a reckoning. Why would us part timers care, the union doesn't care about us.
I do wonder if a large % of the non turnout is down to part timers. Most of them here are in the union, I think when they go for the induction they realise it’s best to join but only 3 out of about 10 I spoke to knew about the dispute and I had my doubts whether 1 of those 3 would’ve voted anyway. I think the word I’m looking for is disenchanted.

The union have constantly ignored the plight of part timers. It will play into the hands of Royal Mail as more FT staff retire. In 5/10 years when there’s more PT staff than FT staff I wonder how the union hope to engage with those they’ve ignored?

None of this is a criticism of those on FT hours by the way.

If I was offered FT hours I think I’d reject it now. The worst RM could do to me is make me start and finish on the street but that’s still only a maximum 5 hour delivery. I regularly do OT and average a 6 hour delivery.

Still want my average holiday pay though......
This guy gets it. Every office should have a union rep who is a part timer. This way the union would have true power going forward. As it is it is dying from rep self interest.
Most offices are run on self interest. It’s a shame because I foresee some people really not coping with the changes and needing support from others.

I try not to be like that but over time you become like all the others and just care about yourself. As an example, there’s a guy who starts 2 hours before me (god knows why cos he doesn’t even know IPS). He used to always moan at me when I gave him a missorted parcel, each time I’d point out he has a 2 hour head start and is always welcome to go through my packets to pick out any which are his. He never did and once even complained to a manager about me handing him a parcel when he was tied up. Now any missorted parcels I find for his round get put on IPS and he regularly gets a phone call from management while on delivery asking why he’s left a tracked behind. Not my problem if that’s how he wants to play things.

See also people constantly leaving no fuel in vans, it’s very easy to return the favour. And leave the van in the overflow car park 10 minutes away....on a Wednesday when they really don’t have the time.

I’ll help anyone but cross me and I get my own back in my own snide way.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.
