Time to Leave the Union.

Post by twiddledumb »

Well after this yes vote, I think it's time to leave the union. It is clear they do not care about my working conditions. The managed to convince/bribe 90+% of a really low turnout to vote for this, but I bet 1 year down the line, those people will regret that decision. It was equivalent to turkeys voting for Christmas, with RM getting every present they wanted from the CWU. Weak union leadership has led to a drastic lowering of our working conditions that is now on a slippery slope race to the bottom, sure we will get decent pay and sure RM say they wont sack people, but once RM get to work changing the whole structure of the company making our jobs so much harder then they won't need to sack people because so many posties will just walk.

Please reconsider.

And at the same time, changes the top can only be effected by the membership of which you are one.

Wishing you well.

Ok I can see why you posted some of your concerns but in reality does the job work the way it is right now?.if your not a driver are you basically getting away with having not a great deal to do? As much as its pains me to say it were not a public service anymore in it's current state it does not work.im 30 years in old school blah blah....time to move on it has to change so let's just get bloody on with it.

At the end of the day we all have a start time and we all have a finish time. Yeah some days are easier and some a lot harder it's swings and roundabouts. The main thing is we all get a decent wage paid to us on a Friday morning. There are far worse jobs out there for far less money.
Also during these last 12 unprecedented months have we ever had to worry about turning up for work only to find closing down signs on the front door! Lots of other people have experienced that and I'm glad I've not been one of them.

utter pish
i will never vote for cwu support again
if (and they will )need ballots for action against company in the future im out
they have sold us down the river again
everything we balloted against is coming in one form or another
cant wait to see cwu reps defend no 5hr delivery spans when were over that already
:wave :wave :wave to your terms and conditions
yes we have terms won by union in the past but im afraid in the last 20 years cwu have conceded every time so eventually we will not have anything left

Good luck to you if you ever, for whatever reason, find yourself facing any sort of disciplinary action

He won't leave. After every ballot result the same old posts go up about "sold down the river" " sheep only seeing the back pay" and "I'm leaving the union".
Hopefully the majority (who spout this) see the reality that leaving the union is about a dumb an action as it's possible to take in the current jobs climate.

I have already left. The union are useless from top to bottom. The leadership are overpaid and out of touch, I mean they never even asked their membership about what they should fight for and what red lines they want in talks. These talks must have been the quickest talks ever conducted. Along the lines of RM " We want all of these demands" CWU "Ok just bribe the membership and make the wording vague and it's yours" Embarrassing, Dave Ward, and Terry Pullinger should be sacked along with the rest of the negotiating team they have achieved nothing but wave the white flag on every deal.

Where were the union when RM stopped Sat letter deliveries last year? Now RM and regulator have the data to make that permanent. Terrible weak union leadership allowed that to happen.

Where have the union been throughout the pandemic? RM have used this pandemic to make as much money as they can with little regard for posties health and safety. Nearly a year before masks where made compulsory in offices, where where the union demanding only essential deliveries protecting their members? Where were they demanding everyone be equipped with PPE and made to wear it in offices.

The local reps are even worse, my union rep has been on the sick for 18 months, and I have not seen one union rep since then, not one.
Absolutely useless, they take your money and give you nothing in return. This last 12 months has really highlighted to me how bad the union has become. The leadership is weak, incompetent and not worth my subs. If RM want to sack me, I would not trust this union to protect my job, why would I with their past record.

Enjoy your payrise before the s**t hits the fan and the reality of the new job requirements, working conditions and working rights becomes a reality for you.

Kevin r smith your cpl posts here are pretty disrespectful pal . Really depressing with the low turnout vote wise though , no point being in union if not voting. The r mail will gradually go for our t & cs though , its like another christmas for them with the outcome , happy days eh .

I agree with the Op for the most part. Turkeys voting for xmas does spring to mind that's for sure. The biggest kick in the pants will come from the clocking in and out. I know all the "work to your time and you won't have a problem" merchants will be jumping for joy but it will be a tool used to beat us with. Turn up five minutes late too often, get a warning. So and so can do that walk 30 minutes faster than you... warning! Oh look the youngest fittest bloke can do that walk in such and such a time we can make it bigger, oh look the fifty year old with a dodgy knee can't do it in the same time... warning! The can of worms is about to be opened all because people were too willing to take the devils shilling and not think of the consequences!

I would urge no one to leave the union though. Not so much that they can help you but more as a deterrent for overzealous managers. Two guys in our office have had trouble with one manager in particular. Both were not in the union. One was forced to relocate to another office and the other sacked over silly things which the management would have let go if they had had any kind of representation!
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

So anyone who voted yes took the devil's shilling what a load of claptrap most posties i know just listen to what cwu ask them to do. an would also say most of them dont really know what's going on because they have no interest in reading agreements that are always so vague an difficult to understand..so if they are all taking the devils shilling the leadership must be all devils as there would be none an rm would then really screw us all over. Already scan in an out in mc i work in so what is going to change.
