People using their own cars at our place but under strict instructions it's only to the first delivery point. Quite a nice earner for some apparently with the allowence you get.
They probably need additional car insurance as normal car insurance is normally "to your regular place of work"
Business use covers it if you aren't carrying mail. £7 for the year extra for me.

I may be mistaken ( it’s my age lol) but I think it all went down the toilet when a young lad was killed on His moped possibly going out to His second delivery? Some of the longer serving guys on here may remember it? It had got daft. I witnessed guys going out on scooters with their pouch on their foot boards steadying it with one foot FFS!!!!

Why do you like to use your car rather than a RM van? :cuppa

Maybe the car users would prefer that we operate like some of our competitors and supply our own vans with own insurance, own fuel, own maintainence costs etc etc.

RM have done nothing about the situation despite it now being 10 months since the first lockdown.

In the long run van shares will be phased out but obviously that will need more vans. At the moment RM seem happy enough with people walking/bussing out and duties failing all the time. RM do not care about how people get out to the duty, and they do not care about the massive failing - the longer they can get away with not actually solving the problems, the happier they will be. The silence from the union about it is another matter!
Plenty people will always be willing to use their own car, and in the future I can see RM selling it by officially allowing remote start and finish for part time staff.
Full time driver takes out 2 duties worth and deposits one of them into pouch boxes, the first one containing PDA. Both go off and do your thing, walker leaves their PDA and P739 items in last pouch box. The clear downside to this is that all of the part time staffs hours are outside. That's either 5 hours plus of delivery (where have I heard that before) or 6 days a week.

I believe that all the pouch boxes this way are long gone (either removed or rusted away)

There are still a few, but I'd put re-instatement of them far more likely than an increase in vans.
