More vans cost money and the parking of them is not easy.

I think more importantly a company's carbon footprint will be under greater scrutiny in the next 10 years probably with tax breaks to incentivise reduction.
Unless these extra vans are electric (costly) I doubt increasing the fleet considerably is a direction the business wants to go in the future.

Re: Will van sharing be phased out?
The boss will be our boss and seemingly most managers they couldn’t care less if it makes it easy to get the job done they will turn a blind eye, weve literally had guys coming into work in the car and taking parcels and Mail out in the car and the manager has seen this! Manager himself has taken guys out with HCT to the first delivery point to avoid a half an hour walk I have actually complained about this but he says don’t worry about it the vans are clean then we leave the windows open it’s not a major problem LOL.A couple of weeks ago my regular partner was off and the guy I work with said he would take his car out and meet me on delivery he then proceeded to put the packages and parcels in the car and drive off I said you’re not supposed to do that he just said don’t worry about it it’s not your problem he said there’s no way I’m walking half an hour to my first delivery point and I just do the round on my own I just pick the bags up from the van trouble is this is wrong but management don’t care as it saving over time and this will go on and on like everything else it’s ignored by managementscoobydo79 wrote: ↑30 Jan 2021, 13:55Not allowed. Re: Will van sharing be phased out?
This is true.
One solution would be two shifts on delivery, allowing the vans to be used twice as long each day. There are currently some logistical barriers to that, but a reform of the USO could potentially allow a 8-1 delivery followed by a 2-7 delivery. To an extent a precedent for this exists with LATs and Covid-related afternoon deliveries. This wouldn't double capacity as collections and LATs would still use some of the vans, but it'd increase capacity by over 50%.
Best thing to do about this is (obviously) for us all to go into denial and say it couldn't possibly ever happen and even if it could the union would never agree it . . .

Re: Will van sharing be phased out?
I get that we are in exceptional times, but just about 11 months into this, huge numbers of people getting buses, taxis (yes!), walking 2 miles, using OMV to start their delivery is frankly embarrassing for a huge company like RM.
But then again, when we had the union have secret talks about trying to bring back shared vans last September nothing surprises me anymore.

The chances are far higher that someone will grass him up.
That's the real risk.
That's how 90% of sackings for this kind of thing happen.

Re: Will van sharing be phased out?
Not just the guy using his car. If you’re the driver of the van and have signed to use the van surely you will be the one held responsible for the security of the mail in that vehicle. If you allow your partner to take work from the van and put it in their private vehicle you’re probably leaving yourself wide open to dismissal too.scoobydo79 wrote: ↑31 Jan 2021, 14:20Seriously.What will happen to the guy who has his car broken into and at least 6 pouches of mail and 8 specials stolen plus the dozen tracked parcels? People using their own cars at our place but under strict instructions it's only to the first delivery point. Quite a nice earner for some apparently with the allowence you get.

Re: Will van sharing be phased out?
They probably need additional car insurance as normal car insurance is normally "to your regular place of work"Seymour Buts wrote: ↑31 Jan 2021, 18:14People using their own cars at our place but under strict instructions it's only to the first delivery point.
