Get real LJ - there isn't going to be a strike over the pension - you may not even get a veto vote - it may be an either/or. After all is said and done the leadership have readily agreed with RM that they cannot sustain the present level of pension contribution and so they are going to recommend acceptance of whatever proposals are put forward and the sheep will follow.
dvbuk, I remember you slagging me off a while back but I'm a big boy and can take it, even to the point of totally endorsing what your saying here. Billy n Dave sent us that letter recently which could've just as easily been signed by Alan n Adam. They're telling us we've got to accept changes in our pensions, so it's obvious what the recommendation will be, and if it's anything like the last vote we can all wave our pensions bye bye.

When the bank raises interest rates on my mortgage they don't ask me for a 60 day consultation period...... I gotta pay! The same as the government (our employers) have gotta pay!

NO CONSULTATION PERIOD!

NO CHANGES TO PENSIONS!

Of course you're a big boy  who hasn't lied occasionally? :angel

I note you mention the consultation period which we are now half way through - as with the pay deal the communication is abysmal and one way only. I and many others on this forum believed it was a done deal at the time and if I'm proved wrong I'll be on the Town Hall steps etc.

DVBUK

I take it you dont agree that the present level of pension contribution is unsustainable?
I believe like many others that the pensions holiday DID contribute to the pensions shortfall in some measure. I understand the legal implications of the excess BUT the money should have been ring fenced or at least when the deficit was discovered to be so large then the Government should have made a contribution equal to the monies received by them over the years.

We shouldn't forget that the lump sum is the only element of the pension which is exempt tax - the pension itself is taxable and so the Government will still get its pound of flesh, if not from the cradle then certainly to the grave.
