You sound like you are suffering with mental stress. This isn’t you being “weak”.
You can self certify yourself off work for 7 days. Personally I’d consider that and speaking with your GP over the phone and seeing what they suggest.

And then when you consider youre doing that over maybe 200 days a year in all weathers - its too much isnt it??Cucumber wrote: ↑18 Jan 2021, 18:34As a snapshot, my figures today are walking - 19.8km/12.3 miles.mjd24 wrote: ↑18 Jan 2021, 18:16Anyone with an iphone can look at the health app which will tell you how many steps you have taken each day, as well as miles walked and flights of stairs/steps climbed. It will show you your average for each category per week/month/year.
My average number of flights of stairs climbed per day for the last 4 years:
2017: 32
2018: 29
2019: 25
2020: 28
- a flight of stairs is counted as approximately 3 meters (10 feet) of elevation gain (approximately 16 steps.
So thats on average between 25-32 flights of stairs walked up every single day for the last 4 years! That cant be good for the knees!!
And number of miles walked is bang on 6.1 per day for last 4 years.
These numbers obviously take into account the 4-5 weeks of annual leave each year as well as days off where i often do very little at all!
Im sure there are many of you who do more than i do. Anyone want to share their numbers?
Flights of stairs climbed - 52
That's a 5 hour plus duty with a little bit of indoor walking in the morning (it all adds up) then moving about after work.
I am shattered each day.
My numbers for today (which actually felt like an easy day compared to many over the last few months)
20321 steps
9.7 miles
45 flights of stairs
Im in my mid thirties and i often wonder what ill be like physically if i continue in this job through my forties and fifties.

Never under estimate the state of your own, or anyone else's mental health.
On the physical side I don't know how many people have read (or even seen) Royal Mail Delivery – Musculoskeletal Survey Report from 2018
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=86990
It appears to have been overlooked/forgotten/ignored by both the company and the union.

I regularly hit 30,000 steps a day which comes in at about 14 miles. I must add, I do very little overtime (physically can't), it's just what is crammed into my daily workload is totally breaking me.mjd24 wrote: ↑18 Jan 2021, 18:48And then when you consider youre doing that over maybe 200 days a year in all weathers - its too much isnt it??Cucumber wrote: ↑18 Jan 2021, 18:34As a snapshot, my figures today are walking - 19.8km/12.3 miles.mjd24 wrote: ↑18 Jan 2021, 18:16Anyone with an iphone can look at the health app which will tell you how many steps you have taken each day, as well as miles walked and flights of stairs/steps climbed. Is that 30000 steps recorded on an iphone? Ive noticed over the years that different phones or fitbits etc vary wildly in terms of measuring steps.Cucumber wrote: ↑18 Jan 2021, 18:56I regularly hit 30,000 steps a day which comes in at about 14 miles. You can just tell people are fed up in the morning, some having meltdowns and ending up in tears, even the banter has all but dried up. Understandable really when you think what we’re up against every day, unachievable workloads, lapsing, uncooperative DOMs, temperamental PDAs, knackered vans, and colleagues that don’t take covid seriously.

Re: Any1 shattered? Destroyed?
Very much doubt it's actually 14 miles, that would take 5hrs on delivery moving, thats not including stopping at a door, writing 739s out, unloading van, loading trolley etc. Step counters have a big margin of error, a gps device would be more accurate.Cucumber wrote: ↑18 Jan 2021, 18:56I regularly hit 30,000 steps a day which comes in at about 14 miles. Don't forget the weather, the past month or more has been a succession of snowfalls, rainy thaws, hard frosts, and more snowfalls here.Jpro747 wrote: ↑18 Jan 2021, 21:25You can just tell people are fed up in the morning, some having meltdowns and ending up in tears, even the banter has all but dried up. Really hard going plodding around in the snow and ice for hours on end.

Re: Any1 shattered? Destroyed?
Good point, maybe it's just my imagination but winters these days really do seem to be much more intolerable and difficult to work in.
Winters are not necessarily colder, but wetter and windier then interspersed with brief spells of it turning bitingly cold for a few days before the next load of wet and windy weather rolls in.
I used to prefer delivering in winter over the heat and humidity of summer but we just never seem to get any pleasant winter days anymore where it's just cool and dry and calm, it's either torrential rain and gale force winds or ball achingly cold!

Re: Any1 shattered? Destroyed?
A good post to put on here, apart from the replies of suck it up,get another job etc I wonder how many of us go down the health and well being avenue to see just what’s on offer from Royal Mail,or is it all talk again?the sympathetic employer, what experience has anyone had over This? Constantly feeling tired, stressed you can’t complete, miffed cos you do it properly and find yourself 2 hours adrift, not treated fairly, shocked at how the office is managed,a drab workplace that hasn’t seen a lic of paint and furniture for years,an ageing fleet of vans embarrassingly not fit for purpose, and so it goes on,
