Do most callers officers have computers now, all the callers office I have worked in have computers with the computer delivery programme, all we ask for is the postcode, cannot understand why people would complain just because u forgot the surname, all they had to do even if they don’t have computers is ask the customer there address , collect the item of the shelf, ask for ID then check if the name on the ID is the same as on the item.

Why not something as simple as when you click 'not delivered' the PDA generates a number that you write on the 739, when it's scanned back in at the office this number/scan gives you the location?

With the forthcoming bad weather making it impossible to write out a 739 on the doorstep, I put the date, 11am, tick a few boxes & walk number before I leave the office, then just add the house number only, so they know they have parcel returned to the office.
