Non drivers
What's people's thoughts on non drivers do they have a future with royal mail.
I tried asking the question a few times on the live sessions with Pullinger and Ward but think it got overlooked.

Re: Non drivers
At the moment no new posties are being recruited unless they can drive. While there are some non-driving posties left and at the moment there are no compulsory redundancies, the jobs that they can do will by necessity be fewer and fewer as the years go by,

Re: Non drivers
Probably a couple of factors will come into play long-term:
* The relocation of DOs to industrial estates away from the area they cover.
* The increasing amount of parcels and Tracked of all sizes (it'll reach a point where a van can only fit one walks worth of mail)

Re: Non drivers
It already reached that point, although not everyday but it is increasingly difficult to fit 2 duties in a van.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑14 Jan 2021, 10:31Probably a couple of factors will come into play long-term:

You do get bigger vans. The increasing amount of parcels and Tracked of all sizes (it'll reach a point where a van can only fit one walks worth of mail)
They come in all sizes.
At least half of ours have been replaced by transit sized vans.
There's no space issue and we're also about to lose the majority of our large parcel traffic to afternoon parcel deliveries.

In theory. In practice your probably going to get loads anyway. Large and small these days are typically mixed togetherWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑14 Jan 2021, 12:06we're also about to lose the majority of our large parcel traffic to afternoon parcel deliveries.

A parcel separation strategy requires the separation of parcels.

If you think they're always going to be separated properly you can dream on, they never willWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑14 Jan 2021, 21:10It's not going to be how it is these days.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑14 Jan 2021, 19:40In theory. You don't know that, I don't know that.
It's just guesswork.
If they can't separate the parcels they've just spent a lot of money on useless parcel hubs.
I'm sure there will be teething problems and I'm sure they won't always get it right but I'm also sure it isn't the most technical thing in the world to achieve.

Re: Non drivers
Every late shift (who do Tracked 24) and early shift (who do Tracked 48) at every MC is just as guilty of mixing small and large together. Apparently the template for what gets sent to a PSM is really big so in realistically it'll only be Tracked items like microwaves that DOs won't seeWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑14 Jan 2021, 21:37You don't know that, I don't know that.

Re: Non drivers
Who's to say that the separation of small and large parcels does not move into delivery units running dedicated large parcel delivery duties sorted by non drivers.
