HSE / Public Health Inspectors paid a surprise visit to NDC yesterday (Tues). They apparently were so interested in the lack of masks being worn/ worn incorrectly they were taking lots of photos.

I thought the wearing of masks was just Royal Mail policy and not a legal requirement so I don’t really understand why any outside agency would be interested. Unless Royal Mail are claiming the wearing of masks is an additional measure that allows people to cut social distancing to 1 metre.

If the government end up making the social distancing 3m then whole offices will grind to a halt. As it is 2m if often physically impossible

It's unlikely to happen but even if it did it would be "where possible".

But where distancing isn't possible then other mitigating measures MUST be taken - such as wearing masks, not standing face to face etc.

Need to get past the 2 inch rule before moving onto 2 meters. Isles are too narrow.

Also if the rumoured 'click and collect' gets suspended across the board (it's happened in Scotland) we are going to get a little bit more busier.

Getting cheesed off with the amount of "chin warmers" people are wearing. Dont or cant people realise this is a serious problem for everybody.

Of course, I see the light ! Whoever let this “outside agency” into the building should be sacked immediately. I mean, what’s it got to do with them ? The sooner we can get back to killing each other and our families without the annoyance of these interfering busybodies the better. The virus has been in the country for a year now and - as an example- NDC has only had 5 deaths in the workforce, just not trying hard enough.

Iv been at royal mail for 31 years all on delivery. Since the covid outbreak iv been banging on to my dom about wearing masks, I know social distancing is difficult. It's been mandatory to wear a mask, visor since november 11th 2020. In December, 13 members of shop floor staff all went off, positive covid test within 5 days. My manager still refusing to implement mandatory wearing off face masks. In January after going back to work I had to go to my area union rep to get him to contract my doms manager to get the office dom to implement the proper procedures. It's still an absolute joke, that my colleagues of many years are still not happy about wearing them. There is just one who says he his medical exempt. That person should be given the choice mask, visor or different shift so that person is not in contact with other workers who are wearing masks. I'm off again now with what the doc calls post covid cough and chest infection. 3 hrs most inside our office to wear a mask to a least try and protect ourselves. When I go back and colleagues are not wearing masks I'm out off there until they make it safe . We have every right too under article 44 of the health and safety act. This is no joke my royal mail friends.

Masks only stop spital and ejected particles the virus will emanate through and around the masks https://www.news-medical.net/health/The ... hings.aspx so unless you lock yourself away or stay 10 meters from everyone you will get it at some time!

Just had a look at that link, and ‘further reading’ - “how is Covid spread” and they recommend wearing a face covering to reduce transmission.

I've genuinely found my misanthropy level has gone through the roof. As much as I wish my colleagues well and enjoy being around them, distancing/personal hygeine efforts are lax and nobody gives a s**t.

People at the office: f off you can't make me van share. It's against social distancing and I might get ill.
Also people at the office: huddled around drop fittings sorting parcels, morning chats, tea breaks etc

The union's having a go at management but realistically what are management gonna do? Forcibly stop people?

It will reduce it if you use it properly and dispose of it properly and not touch the mask as your then contaminating everything you touch. But all too often we see it people touching their masks and leaving them on gear sticks and frames sink taps for others to catch the virus. The thing is unless you have an N95 mask it will get through the mask so I have not seen anyone with an N95 mask so COVID-19 is in the air it will go for your eyes and get in you that way or when some dirty mask files in your face as you put the sun visor down in the van!

If your colleagues are leaving their used masks around the office and vehicles as you say I must say that it’s shocking that they have such a lack of respect for each other ! Doesn’t give you confidence that they have cleaned the vehicle touch points at the start or end of their duty !
