Been out the loop for a couple of weeks,so apologies if this has already been discussed............
Very,Very strong rumour that Royal Mail have purchased the old Vauxall site next to Luton Airport as to what they going to do with it,the storey is a super mail center, thus shutting down Watford,Hemel & Stevenage mail centers,Northern Home Counties(Hatfield Dist Center)also rumoured to be going to the same site.
Anyone hear any drums beating??

I've also heard thiis. You could find out for sure who has purchased this site from the land registry but you have to pay to find out!.disheartened wrote:Been out the loop for a couple of weeks,so apologies if this has already been discussed............

But surely if they built a mail center at Luton it could also put the Milton Keynes Mail Centers' future in doubt as well. (19 miles distance apart)
I also heard that Hemel Mail Center will be losing it's 2nd class work. (Might be just the mech). They're already asking for volunteers for redundancy.
THE FUTURE IS GRIM I'M AFRAID.

That requires a degree of forward-planning and intelligence never shown by the half-wits we have in charge of Royal Mail, so your answer is probably 'not in our lifetime'Lounge Lizard wrote:How long will it be until they decide to have just one massive national mail centre located close to a motorway junction and an airport ?
If they had half a brain-cell between them they could have utilised the former British Aerospace runway on the Business Park at Hatfield 14 years ago and instead of locating a relatively small Distribution Centre there, built a huge hub that would have been able to handle stuff that currently goes in & out of Heathrow and Stansted airports on heavily-congested roads

Luton
That is outrageous!!!
That would mean virtually the whole of Hertforshire's mail would be delivered from a place that has no connection with it and would have a massively negative impact on job prospects for RM employees resident in Hertfordshire.
RM will probably offer people jobs in Luton which nobody will take as most people avoid Luton like the plague if they can help it so the end result will probably be redundancies.
Stevenage is bursting at the seams at the moment so if the processing work moved it would ease congestion but why Luton?
RM should build a new mail centre for WD/AL/EN/HP/SG post codes in Hertfordshire.
We will fight this plan all the way and I am sure Herts residents will be furious at this plan which is typical of Crozier and Leighton.

Check on the local councils website for planning applications, if RM have purchased the land they probably would've put in for planning.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet

Re: Luton
Simple answer really.......all the Polish that work at our office (Watford) are all coached in from Luton,it'll make it a lot easier for them to get to work, its clear Royal Mail do not want any full timers....part timers and casual workers are the way RM want to go.Its my guess the mail center site in Watford will be kept open as peppercorn rent is paid to Watford Council but turned in to a large delivery office,it already operates a delivery center and i would assume Rickmansworth,Bushey & Kings Langley Delivery Offices would be closed down and moved in to the Ascot Road site,Bushey and Kings are in prime house/flat building areas and worth a fortune,i think Ricky is rented from BT.Wild Cat wrote:That is outrageous!!!
