In my office we had ONE day back in April(ish) when we tried method of social distancing. This meant two metres apart and a limited number on the sorting. That lasted the morning (I think it was a light Tuesday hence the token effort) and was never done again.
We were told masks were mandatory and were handed them. I've maybe been told twice to put mine on (and that was because we had external visitors so wanted to make good impression. Laughable). Probably 80% not wearing in our office. I bought my own mask but seeing the amount of people who refuse to and the management do nothing about it makes you think what's the point. If you want to clear your pigeons or bags then you move between the people in your way as no one is stopping sorting to let you. The only thing more important than our health is clearing the office and at any cost. It's disgusting.same hear my friend! It was practically unworkable despite the boss putting his spin on it,it was simply taking longer, and they are on us oldies on taking longer already as it is!staggered starts we’re considerd and soon dismissed as it would impact on people’s strict routines god forbid!then you see rmtv on how a unit should be set up to handle Covid, fantasyland to say the least!!
What's the answer? Tell management how to do their job and they single you out as troublemaker? Report the office to health and safety and get singled out as the reason people can't finish their rounds because we actually have to take precautions which slow down productivity?
With the new strand of this virus being more contagious than before everyone should be refusing to work unless all safety measures are being put in place. I know three people just in the last week who have now tested positive and one is seriously ill and in hospital with it. Don't take anymore chances!
(Still can't believe majority of my office was happy for van sharing to come back in).

Re: Apathy in the workplace?
H and S issues are a valid reason to refuse to work if you think you are being put at risk, if so many people are ignoring the rules then it needs addressing report it.postman1979 wrote: ↑03 Jan 2021, 18:15Our unit in a MC consists of 16 members of staff in a small area. 2x wearing masks/face shields, the rest? No chance. They can't/won't social distance and the management are taking no notice despite it being reported numerous times, all you get is a shrug of the shoulders. No manager for full shift (he calls in now and then). Have considered reporting it to HSE but am wary of being identified.

Agree, here is another "statement of intent" in a recent LTB identifies failings but does not appear to have a strategy to follow up with any action.ConeHater wrote: ↑03 Jan 2021, 18:17Have a search for LTB544/20, entitled RMG/CWU Joint Statement Dealing With Coronavirus/ Covid 19 - Protecting And Putting Employees First And Introduction Of Mandatory Face Masks. Lots of statements of intent of what is to be done to keep the workforce healthy, so plenty of ammunition to “hold their feet to the fire” when it comes to some sort of action! One would hope that the Union would be all over it too, and as it has their blessing we can also question why they are being so complacent with keeping their Members safe in the workplace!
I have approached 4 agency staff last week & requested they wear masks correctly instead of only over the mouth or around the chin. A colleague has also challenged drivers at our RDC to observe mask wearing but has not always received a positive response. Whilst we are told we are responsible for our own safety & the H&S of our colleagues, it apparent apathy from certain individuals regarding the mandatory wearing of masks is allowed to continue unchallenged by senior staff.

LTB 603/20 – Royal Mail Group – Mandatory Mask Wearing – CWU Compliance Survey (Dec 2020)
No. 603/2020
21 December 2020
EDIT;
Overall the feedback results are positive and generally speaking, compliance stands at a good level across the country. However, it’s not perfect and there’s room for improvement!
A number of weak areas have been identified and even within the strongly compliant areas there are some ‘rogue units’ where compliance is at best weak and at worst virtually non-existent due to poor front-line management commitment, briefings, policing by management and poor safety culture in these units.
Some Operational Managers have set a poor example by not wearing their masks properly or not wearing them at all, which is another problem. Staff in these units, then not surprisingly follow suit.
A number of units have seen standards slip back after a good start........
Agency staff not controlled sufficiently by managers in a number of offices or allowed to openly disregard and flout the mandatory mask wearing rule was identified.

Re: Apathy in the workplace?
Masks are worn in our office in the morning but no one including the manager is wearing one when we come back in the afternoon. So the virus only does mornings apparently!
Shouldn’t we be walking out if masks aren’t being worn and social distancing isn’t being enforced? CWU distracted with dollar signs in their eyes (pay deal)

Seriously your a grown adult ffs just wear your mask and protect your own health. please dont behave like a child an say so an so is not doing things properly then neither am i.Sprattacus wrote: ↑04 Jan 2021, 08:47As far as I know wearing one is a good protection for others. Re: Apathy in the workplace?
Always amazes me how much risk people are willing to take based on those 5 words...As far as I know....
People like us with no background in the subject actually don't know anything. We're relying on other people knowing but there's so much information overload and we're human so we pick and choose what we like so we still don't actually know anything.
In a situation where you don't know the dangers it's always best to risk as little as possible. You don't go all in blind because you can't bluff a virus.

Re: Apathy in the workplace?
I thought that having colleagues in one’s own office dying might focus people’s minds. I knew that we’d lost 3 during the year but I learnt today that it’s actually 5. We had notices posted regarding the first 3 but not of the later 2. I suspect that incidents are being suppressed as much as possible - Ostrich management, head in the sand. Of course I don’t presume that they caught the virus whilst at work, but why take the risk by not wearing a mask ?

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nc ... -cov2.htmlPeople like you are just too stupid to get it
As far as you know is sometimes not very far....Filtration for Personal Protection
Studies demonstrate that cloth mask materials can also reduce wearers’ exposure to infectious droplets through filtration, including filtration of fine droplets and particles less than 10 microns.

FFS it's for 2 hrs in a morning! Why can't people manage that. If they went into hospital they'd be the first to complain if no-one was wearing a mask. My wife has to wear one for full 12 hr shift. Grow up people.

(Still can't believe majority of my office was happy for van sharing to come back in).me wearing a mask doesn't protect me if 1. Most others aren't and 2. There's no social distancing measures.
"Surgical masks may protect others by reducing exposure to the saliva and respiratory secretions of the mask wearer."
So one person in an office of 50 wears their mask like a good boy and the other 49 do not and do not social distance. Should that one person be happy about that and shut up?
