A few in my office are happy to use their cars to follow the van around because once the last letter has been delivered, they can drive straight home rather than return to the office, particularly useful for those who need to get home ASAP because of childcare issues etc
So they stitch up the guy they are meant to be working with? He gets to take responsibility for both lots of docket lefts including specials, and both collections and then take the van back! Nice!!!!
Happening all across the country. Drivers are being totally stitched up. People bussing/using own cars are banking 1hr plus per day, and getting paid an allowance (£25-30 per week) to do so. All the work on the driver to return to office with non delivered items/PDAs/collections/bags.
this ones easily solved by rotating who is the driver and who is the walker on a day by day or week by week basis.

Not if you have a large number of non driving staff.

Why all the negativity on this issue, creating bad feelings between people. We have a global problem and this is a solution that helps us do the job we are paid to do and serves our customers, who pay our wages. Sort out a rota regards who is driving or not and five minutes parking up is no big deal.
Yes, It annoys me walkers going home from the end delivery point after a HCT duty, having had the cart picked up for them before finish time most days, but this is how it is at present.

You're not insured if someone damages your car as someone found out in our DO.

Usually the postie with the car does the last loop, doing only the mail. No packets at all. Allowing the van driver to head back to the office and drop off what didn't get delivered. That's how it works in most offices to make it fair on both posties.

Cars are not cheap these days. Who could afford a write off just so RM could save a few quid on van hire. It's disgusting really.

I've seen posties literally fill up their boot with bags of mail and parcels and leave the DO

Not if you have passengers who are looking fo every possible kick back they can get for using their car/bussing. It's a shame, as I'd have hoped that there would have been some national agreement over this.

No kickback if your car is a write off like what happened in our depot. No more using my car.

That's understandable. Will never happen elsewhere though as plenty happy to take their chances.
