The business had people volunteer to work on Boxing day. If you don’t think people will volunteer to work Sundays you a very much mistaken
Only because they paid through the nose.

Again incorrect. They offered £38. Not exactly through the nose

For 4 hrs that would take you to about £23 p/h.
By Royal Mail terms that's crazy money.

I personally think the most likely way they'll bring in Sunday working is by introducing a complete new duty set that includes Sunday working, then triggering a full office resign

To be having revisions in this covid affected time is crazy just getting the work done as we are is hard enough making cuts/changes at this time is not the best idea.

RM will probably want all all revisions done and dusted by the start of the new financial year

They may want but until the staffing levels are stable and we can judge what work load we can expect then waiting is better then making a pigs ear of it. ps pigs ear it is then

I think I'll stick with my present duty 22.5hrs. Wed/Thur/Fri., 3 on, 4 off absolutely brilliant but ideally like to drop down to 2 days.

In our office we’re being told 22.5 hour contracts will be moved to 5 days so keep your wits about you. Not sure they can do that but it’s not going to stop them trying.

Not sure if my situation is different to most ,but around 10 years ago,i was asked by royal mail if i was interested in a job share ,which i took them up on,around 5 years later a new DOM ,decided he wanted to do away with them ,and offered us either 4 days or 5 for the 23.5 contract, which we declined ,eventually getting the union involved at a national level, and ultimatly the ruling was that because royal mail had offered the job share and we hadnt asked for it,that the three day had to stay

When you say “ruling” who deemed this to be the case? Royal Mail, the union or a tribunal. Not trying to split hairs here but I have a feeling your case may be handy to refer to when this erupts in our office. Obviously no names would be mentioned but it would be helpful for the union rep involved to report this to our area rep to use as supporting evidence.

I think as they had been doing a job share for a number of years then it would be classed as custom and practise(even if it was only a verbal agreement)and that if RM wanted to suddenly withdraw it then they should have given them at least 28 days notice might have had something to do with it.
Royal Mail managers.....about as popular as a t.urd in a swimming pool!

Re: plenty of volunteers to work Boxing Day. It’s a bit different persuading people to work just that one day, on more pay, when a lot have their own duties and perhaps hope to pick up a few extra tips and you’re already in the Christmas spirit plus it’s not like there’s a lot they could do outdoors anyway- no sports fixtures to attend, no visits to the beach (unless you live local).

I wonder if those same volunteers would be willing to work sundays the rest of the year....

As for me IF it’s brought in I think I’ll be able to get out of it on religious grounds. If not, for once I’ll be happy I’m only on a 25 hour contract and will begrudgingly do my 5 hours and go home.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.
