Just to complicate things what happens if its your long weekend (Sat 26th/Mon 28th days off) and you have a week of annual leave booked for week commencing Monday 21st Dec? Will I use 3 or 4 days annual leave on a five day week? :confused

You'll be using up the hrs for Mon, Tues, Wed and Thur. If you'd been any of those days as your rota day off, you'd only have had to use up 3 of those 4 days. As you can see, royal mail and Union shafting people for being day off on a non service day. Why oh why they didn't just make everyone Saturday off next week. They'd have nobody in on their day off costing money plus every office could have reasonably expected to have cleared with no or minimal overtime. Also it would have been fair.

If you allow the business the scope to move members days off to save money there's no going back from that position.

It's called setting a precedent.

You want to even the playing field by reducing everyone's situation to that of the members who feel exploited.

That's what we call a race to the bottom. Nobody gains but we get to feel warm and cosy about removing hours from the budget and ultimately pay from our members.

Everyone in all week and nobody off ultimately means less overtime available, who would that affect the most?

Well next year you could always not do overtime for them and help them out if they treat you in such a way.

Think most people do ot for themselves for a better wage not to help rm out.

Exactly. Apart from the ones who work through their breaks (40mins) or come in 15 or 30 mins early. They love to help out royal mail with unpaid overtime.

If you are down to work the Saturday but you have an SA, will you get paid the SA on top of your normal wage or just the difference between your hourly rate and the SA because you are already in theory getting paid but not working. Hope that makes sense, a young girl at ours was going to do the Covid kits but is not sure if it’s worth it.

Thinking about the way royal mail are I'm surprised they haven't said that because the Saturday is non service day everyone on a rolling day off will be given Saturday as their day off. I noticed all the reserves in my office have been given the Saturday as their day off, wonder if that's a nationwide thing?
Not in my office most of the reserves have been given xmas day off!

Lucky them at least they will get a day in lieu or be able to take the overtime instead of getting nothing! You obviously haven't got street smart managers because it's a trick they've missed to save some money
