TWO sacks of mail destined for homes in East Reading were stolen two months ago – but the would-be recipients have only just been told.
Thieves used a crowbar to burst open a distribution box on the corner of Bulmershe Road and Crescent Road between 8.30am and 9.30am on Saturday, October 13.

But Royal Mail has a policy to only inform recipients of stolen mail once the bags have been recovered, and, as no progress has been made in finding them, neighbours were not informed.
Concerned about the whereabouts of his private mail, Stephen Evans, from Bulmershe Road, wrote to his neighbours to tell them about the theft after it was confirmed to him by his postman.
In his letter, Mr Evans said: “Given the nature of the contents of our mail and the information that I am sure we all receive through the post – bank account details, credit cards, possibly passports to name but a few – perhaps like me you feel that the lack of action by Royal Mail with respect to this crime is wholly unacceptable.
“I shall be writing to the head postmaster at Royal Mail in Reading to ask why we were not informed of the crime and what security measures are to be put in place by Royal Mail to ensure that this cannot happen again.â€
