Good on you Mick. You keep going all the time you can do the job and continue to get satisfaction from it.

I have no doubt that whether he's a nice guy or not there will be colleagues in his D.O. who resent the fact that he's still there and denying someone who actually NEEDS a job an opening. I hate to say it but I lean towards that way of thinking as well. But can also understand the alternative point of view.

Good and valid point Robert. I doubt that they'll choose his rural village round for the lapsing but they may absorb elsewhere. Most people accept that they will retire at pension age and if Mick had gone down that route (not that he had to) someone else would be the village postie now. As you can see on the thread there is a split between positive and negative comments. Neither are definitive just simply opinions.

I also have the opinion that it's selfish of him to continue doing the job at his age, denying a younger person the chance of employment.
He must also be a freak of nature to be physically capable of doing it a 80, unless either huge adjustments are being made to accommodate him or his round hasn't been subject to ''revision'' for a least 30 or 40 years.

This surely is the fault of not having a retirement age and making the state pension age , older and older , it all deprives the younger generation of a job.

Re: Postman Mick, 80 today!
Some really bitter and entitled people on here who feel that the oldies should simply step aside for the younger generation.
It is up to each person to decide when the time is right for them to hang up their mail bag. From many of the comments on this board if the youngsters got full-time positions too early then they would be crippled from the physicality of the job and wear and tear on their bodies, having to retire due to ill health by the time they turn 50.
I take it that Mick is clearly still enjoying the job. Maybe it is all those, of whatever age, who seem to find the job unbearable who should step aside for others from the dole queue who would enjoy the job like Mick.

Hes only enjoying it because he's got a nice rural. Its highly unlikely he would be able to push a HCT around for 5 or 6 hours or do a shared van duty which is why most people now find the job unbearable.
