RM don't make any pay pension up so it will be last in first out and this is still policy in 2020.

Stop talking nonsense.
Last in first out has never been Royal Mail policy.

They don't have to give you a contract so the last ones in will be the first ones who feel the pain as they will not pay redundancy for older staff when they can terminate a new start for nothing!

You have no idea what you're talking about and what you're posting could make people anxious and perhaps make poor employment decisions.

Please think before you post.

Although it's more expensive up front to offer VR to the longest serving first the long term savings are much greater.

Not only are they predominantly full-time and have higher holiday entitlement they also draw the bulk of allowances both current and historic, they are also prone to the kind of conditions and resultant sick absence that comes with age.

No employer wants an increasingly aging workforce and that's what last in-first out creates.

There's also the problem that compulsory redundancy can't discriminate against one particular group and last in would be all part-time staff.

If it came down to the nitty gritty of compulsory redundancies, three of the most commonly used selection criteria’s are:

Length of service

Attendance

Performance & ability

To say that the amount of time you’ve been in the job won’t be taken into consideration is quite frankly, untrue
“Shorts,in this weather?!”

“If they’re bills I don’t want ‘em!”

“What’s she been ordering now?”

Has the business at any point in the discussions threatened compulsory redundancy?

Has the union at any point in the discussions raised the fear of compulsory redundancy?

Last in first out is not the same as using length of service as part of a scoping exercise.

That is the untruth.

They haven’t - but who knows what they have planned for us?

What I do know is that RM never, ever look at the ‘bigger picture’ & if there are two postie’s & one position, one fella with 3yrs service & another with 18yrs - it won’t be the senior guy who is shown the door
