Office is pretty much getting cleared as we can just leave as much mail as we want and concentrate on parcels.
Leaving mail is not clearing the office.
True. I’ve become so accustomed to this years mess that having all the parcels done feels like it’s cleared.
The mail has a nice postmark saying “send early/order early this Xmas” it should also say “or it will sit in a frame until the new year”

I don't know why someone didn't think of separating the oversize parcels from the main pipeline.
Is anyone coping?
The slight problem of massive york shortages. Hope your DOM has placed an order for a pallet truck rental, as before the end of Xmas pressure, every DO is going to need one
If I'm right you've missed the point of the post, I think he's refering to the grand plan of having separate parcel duties which the cwu was dead set against because of possible job losses. Personally I think if they did bring it in when it came to this time of year they'd be sending parcels to all the offices not just the lat offices like was suggested because i can't believe theyd cope with the volumes, suppose they'd just take loads of temporary drivers on for the pressure period though?

It's bad, most of the agency staff have quit and amazing how many staff have phoned in as they suddenly need to isolate for 2 weeks.

I turn up, I prep, I trundle around with a trolley and I go home. Start time, Finish time. Lots get left. Not breaking my back for this company.

Loads of people in my office running around like headless chickens stressing themselves out. For what and for who I do not know.
Yep not sure of the mindset of some people,do they set out to ridicule you,and what goes on that gets overlooked by the boss,as he wants those on board to dig him out of a mess should he need them, offices divided up and down the country, break neck speed and corner cutting at every opportunity to make an archaic system not fit for purpose work,

Doing between 1/2 and 2/3 of a run per day plus tracked. Management seem perplexed what to do.
They can't really say anything though as they are quite happy to let others leave over an hour early* when there is still mail failing all over the office.

* For those that say 'don't worry about others', then that's exactly what I'm doing, not worrying. I jut find it a mildly amusing observation that a possible solution to the problem is so close to them, but so far out of reach.
I kinda feel the managers tough decision here, do they force those people back out at the risk of these people then starting to drag their heels ? Lets face it most people finishing early are coming in early (for free) and / or running around their deliveries and probably working through any break. At least currently those duties are getting cleared, do you create a further problem when there currently isnt one ?

Why do people run round like headless chickens? Do you get a bonus if it is cleared? Do they think more of you? Or is it because you get such a great wage? We have had 3 long term delivery staff leave this month. All under 40 and served more than 20 years. I’ve not known that before in all my 37 years.

Spoke to an ex-colleague the other day and they said my old office was on the verge of imploding with
the volumes coming in. Managers were pretty much clueless and doing like they do every year and throwing the same old tired solutions out there that have never worked. As the saying goes, "only mad men and idiots do the same thing over and over again and expect a different result".

Seems managerial incompetence still rules supreme.

It’s an absolute nightmare. Can’t wait till it’s over in 3 weeks. Me and my partner don’t do any OT, but we work our socks off during the hours we do work. Every few days our walks get knee deep in parcels and they have to pay someone to clear it. We only get time to do tracked & specials, and maybe some letters (rarely a full walk). No casuals in our office. Wait till next week when we start getting swamped with cards! And don’t even get me started on doing D2Ds this time of year!! It also doesn’t help when you get managers giving you ridiculous instructions, eg

MANAGER: You have to take both walks out
US: But we won’t have time to do them, probably won’t even finish one walk
MANAGER: doesn’t matter, both have to go
US: But then we have to waste (precious) time throwing it back in the frame in the morning
MANAGER: Both have to go
US: :arrrghhh

Ive done a lot of christmas with RM but never seen it this bad for parcels.

How is it in a DO ? Well its like this. Yesterday (Thurs) .

Walk up to my frame (iam on a trolley) first thing in the morning and see 3 full packet bags waiting. Put them to one side and start prepping the D2D and mech. Another full bag arrives, try not to panic, do 30 mins ips and another full packet bag arrives, really try not to panic. The final bag of packets arrives at the end of the ips and i pray for doubles to chuck them out even though not packets i threw out on monday are still sitting in a york as there is no one to do overweights. I tip all the parcels and just do not have the space to stack them.

Eventually i sort out the piles and then go seek a manager who informs me that all the tracked HAS to go at the expense of letters. I try to work out which roads of letters i will leave and end up leaving about 50% of the walk. I fill up the HCT with dozens of packets and walk out in the pouring rain.

Even with the huge cut off i still end up working 45 mins over which was not agreed so i cannot book OT. (wont be doing that again). Get home sore and achy after 6 hours walking in the rain. Feel pretty crap about the whole job.

However i get in today and although having a frame half full of mail is not a good start some have 2 days worth to deal with. i also find out that the ones who cleared everything were out working till gone 5pm having started the delivery before 10am. Sod that.

Its pretty rubbish in a DO and the xmas cards have not really started yet.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

Never heard of O/T not being paid because it's not be agreed beforehand. Is that just your office policy Krussel? because I've never seen anything like that before that's piss poor IMO.

Its always been the same. It has to be agreed with the Dom before you go out. Unless you clear the walk they just say leave the letters for the next day.
