Are mail centers prioritising parcels?

Post by Edward Hunter »

On delivery recently ive had a fair few people say to me letters are arriving late/havent arrived. On Monday we had no sequenced trays while the last 2 days our mech letters have doubled.. Something strange seems to be happening. We come under Jubilee mail center.

I would think they need the parcels out the door ready for some more of the never ending mountain to arrive.

The jubilee mail centre manager has coronavirus as well as a dozen more, god knows how many others are self isolating and they’ve just let 25 staff go on voluntary redundancy, not really strange...kind of normal s**t show for this company

Parcels and packets have been priority for years!

Top priority is tracked - even over Specials.

Locally it's

SDs -> Tracked -> Normal packets

Occasionally he walk sequencing gets reverted to just walk sort to free up staff for SDs, Tracked and normal packets

Parcels take up more room so it would be sensible to get them out the door first

Brace yourselves, I hear there’s 160 trailers parked at NDC with Tracked Mail waiting to be unloaded so far today, and that doesn’t include others that are parked off-site. Beats me how we can function with that many trailers out of action !

I heard a rumour that NDC closed their doors on Monday to any new arrivals as they'd run out of room

We're often getting 2-3 artics arriving at the same time throughout the night, normally would only be a couple of times a night

Monday was a challenge at NDC, queues outside so bad that neighbours Tesco and NFT couldn’t get in/out of their depots, police were called. Shunter moving trailer from one side of building to other took over an hour as solid queue from gate to gate.
Wonder if the planners are looking at the volumes and re-assessing the size of the new parcel hub being built nearby ?
Doubtful, it’ll just be the latest embarrassment that we’ll have to put up with, and of course there’ll be no room to expand around it.

Hubs have run out of yorks - using pallets instead. We have no forklift trucks so can't unload double stacked.

Means we are struggling to dispatch as we have no yorks to put processed stuff on.

Mail Centre isn't big enough - since march we've had to use wagons as processed storage - network is running out of lorries and units so storage reduced e.g. no storage space :(

Companies sending stuff on non RM yorks which also mean we can't use them and now cluttering the place up :(

Going to be a bigger challenge next week with even more Christmas staff coming in - so many mistakes being made as so many untrained staff.

My shift finishes at 10 didn't get out till 10.30 mon - fri as needed to get the lorries loading and dispatched.

Lorries breaking down / not arriving, new agency drivers and collections being missed due to collection lorries being full.

We turned down diverts in to get our diverts out - diverts still arriving :(

We are clearing 1st class/tracked 24/specials each night which is a great effort :) - just the network is on its knees

Going to be a fun next few weeks :)

Referring to the original topic :)

Our centre is still trying to prioritise letters as shift managers fear bigger failures e.g. more items on a letter york than a parcel one. Makes shift failure figures worse.
The rush to parcel processing since march has left the office less suited to letter processing so we are struggling to get the letters through.

I heard that the lorries were backed up onto the motorway!

Chances are that most MCs are turning back diversions. If any other MC sent diversions to us, we'd have to turn them away
