Cannot get a holster for love nor money, half the PDA's in our office have issues of broken screens , broken buttons , flashing screens, constantly logging off about 10 times a round, freezing and scanner not working, problems in the wet

Your manager should be able to order a ‘trigger’ that attaches to the back of the PDA. Basically a handle with a trigger you squeeze to scan an item. Works really well and keeps your palm completely away from the front of the PDA.Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑19 Nov 2020, 09:34I did think it was different in mail centres or maybe there's an option I can't find but you can't efficiently submit each individual item and if you leave them unsubmitted you run the risk of either losing your count by accidently submitting them with the palm of your hand or worse a PDA meltdown and losing all your scanned unsubmitted items.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑19 Nov 2020, 08:58Must be different in Delivery Indoor mode. For MC Tracked it auto-sends and keeps a rolling count (unless you select done or go back to the menu)Woody Guthrie wrote: ↑19 Nov 2020, 08:32As someone who scans a lot of tracked into the office would it not be possible to have an auto-submit option for indoor scanning and a rolling count that doesn't automatically disappear when you accidentally submit 300+ items and then wonder where they've gone.

One that can print 739 notices so we don't have to write them out!

Scanners need to be more water-resistant and faster when logging in, loading the route and collection info and when loading the Navigation app (some scanners aren't able to load them at all, the application crashes constantly). Oh, also, the latest version of Android and upgraded hardware would benefit massively, no more issues with apps crashing/devices logging out. A little tip: Ensure ALL animations such as Screen Transition Effects are disabled, this will further improve the performance of the device in my opinion.
The ability to print out p739 cards would be a bonus, plus save a bunch of time too!

Re: We want to hear what works, what doesn't work and how we can improve our PDAs
With regards to the P739 card printer it's probably not viable but isn't it time we had a text/email option especially with tracked that people could opt into?
If you order something from Argos you don't need a piece of cardboard to pick it up, just a text with your order number and some ID.
At the moment you can be notified that you have to collect a tracked but you still need to go home and find a card then take that with you?
Seems a bit silly.

Can't see how. The ticket printers used by train guards are small. As more and more items have 2D barcodes on them it'll be a lot easier to implement as most of the required info will be encoded into the barcode anywayWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑21 Nov 2020, 15:55With regards to the P739 card printer it's probably not viable but isn't it time we had a text/email option especially with tracked that people could opt into?

They don't just use them on-board the train, they use them on platforms as wellWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑21 Nov 2020, 17:20It doesn't rain on a train.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑21 Nov 2020, 17:00Can't see how. Integrating a printer would involve yet another potential point of failure - what happens when paper jams or you runSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑21 Nov 2020, 17:38They don't just use them on-board the train, they use them on platforms as wellWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑21 Nov 2020, 17:20It doesn't rain on a train.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑21 Nov 2020, 17:00Can't see how. out of paper? Faffing about changing a printer roll in the rain - no thanks. And to save on weight it would
be crappy thin thermal paper that supermarkets print out at the till as your receipt. Ever get fed up when the receipt
gets jammed in the supermarket? Then you'd still have to carry 739's as a backup.
Do you really want to try pushing a thin piece of paper through a letterbox by itself if you've got nothing else to deliver?
Enough people claim not to have received a 739 as it is - I can imagine more getting stuck in the letterbox on
the draught excluders and or getting ripped to shreds by Fido if it's a thin piece of paper.

They should develop an app that can be used on your phone instead, dinosaurs without a decent phone can carry on using the crap PDA's.

The ones used by guards don't use rolls, they use proper tickets. It should be possible to get all the required into onto 1. They could be loaded as a cartridge of blanks (but with the DO info pre-printed on them)yellowbelly wrote: ↑21 Nov 2020, 22:33Integrating a printer would involve yet another potential point of failure - what happens when paper jams or you runSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑21 Nov 2020, 17:38They don't just use them on-board the train, they use them on platforms as wellWoody Guthrie wrote: ↑21 Nov 2020, 17:20It doesn't rain on a train.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑21 Nov 2020, 17:00Can't see how. Re: We want to hear what works, what doesn't work and how we can improve our PDAs
As much as writing out 739's in the rain is an annoyance, printers are not viable in the slightest. The PDA's are knackered and outdated and only barely fit for purpose as is. There's no way that we'd have enough printer rolls, ink, and functioning printers that don't get damaged at the drop of a hat in our offices, sadly
