Good managers don't need to rely on plans; they just need to know how to get the best out of their staff.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

The part timer I have been working with today as been told by Dom they have to work overtime when required over Christmas & it’s in the contract, surely part time means part time?

mine says 'as we serve the public there may be times when you need to work over your hours inc bank hols and sundays if required' or something to that effect.

We stopped being a public service years ago. We are working to earn shareholders money and nothing more now and no one should forget that when the chaos really starts soon and managers are begging people to work hours over their time. It was only a couple of months ago we was being told we couldn't go home half an hour early and needed to work our hours, I think alot of people will be working their hours and going home and enjoy telling their doms as well

yeah its very loose shaky language, in the end its very unenforcable as its too unspecific. Tell the DOM to do one, or get your union rep on the case. Your contracted hours are all you have to work, in the end the DOM wont take action over this - at least in terms of dismissal.
