Yep van share has always been a crap way of working. Can only work as quick as the slowest of the pair, and it takes longer when you haven’t sorted your own parcels etc. It’s just crap and needs binned when these big changes come in.wacko74 wrote:No real issues in my office, just the very occasional walk failure where letters are left in and just tracked get delivered.
Seems like all the problems in others offices stem from from van sharing, thankfully there's only 3 van share duties out of 65 in our office.
So much for van share being a more efficient and effective way to deliver mail.

Is your office a complete shambles?
I'm not a delivery postman (and massive respect for what you guys do
) but I do go to most of the DO's around my area and it all depends on the office? Some I go to the frames are full of letters that you can clearly see haven't move for days but I can literally go to the next town and its completely clear and the biggest talking point is 5 packets have been left behind and they are in complete meltdown
now I'm just dropping off the yorks of work but one thing that stands out more than anything is the DO's that are always clear the management do seem to have a very approachable DOM? One particular DOM I was speaking to said if it's a particular heavy day but he still manages to clear he get (in his words) not very polite email from other local DOMs and the DO's that I have had trouble with are the one that are a complete mess? So I'm thinking it has a lot to do with a local manager and his attitude
give the postman/women the respect and time they deserve and manage the office with the same respect and the job will get done but some of these places are run on spite

I think you've hit the nail on the head. Offices that have went 'all in' on van share and remain (correctly) 1 in a van are in a constant struggle to get anything done. We are losing up to 2 hours a day sorting/delivery time per member of staff that needs to take busses/walk etc. Senior management know all about these issues and stayed silent for about 7 months, letting offices fail week after week. Many of us were thinking that they MUST have a plan, they must be coming up with something else.wacko74 wrote:No real issues in my office, just the very occasional walk failure where letters are left in and just tracked get delivered.

Yeah, lets re-introduce van share.

this was the perfect time for them to move away from van share.it cant be hard let the walkers walk and the drivers drive.if your on a walk make the walks bigger and have parcel guys doing more parcels.there has to be a place in the future for guys that cant drive.the only way that will happen is with longer walks.

Sill waiting for the e-trikes, that could have been worth their wait in gold during the ongoing parcel-fest, replacing HCTs and giving "passengers" a viable alternative to all that lost travel time during the pandemic.
https://www.royalmailgroup.com/en/press ... -e-trikes/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The co-ordination between van drivers and the HCT oversize parcels is an absolute shambles...
Some drivers not making written lists
No written list shown to HCT duties to relieve HCT of smaller parcels for places the driver is already going, unnecessarily creating more HCT capacity issues
Drivers kicking off about parcels thrown out for them which are blatently oversize/overweight
HCT often at max capacity or worse besides on relatively light Mon/Tues
No bag drops these days to refill HCT out on the road
Lack of time to dead walk back to depot to refill HCT within contract hours
Etc.
... And the worst Black Friday and Xmas pressure days are almost certainly yet to come this year, it's going to be carnage!

Is your office a complete shambles?
Got this earlier on from an office in South London, small part that I can use on here...
4 vacancies, 3 long term sick, 4 annual leave, and any other sick so most days a third of the office is missing, some walks can go 2 days without being delivered, critical short of drivers. CSP staff do full walks after we close enquiry door.
Morale is non existent.
Opening hours callers office
Monday 07.00 to 9.00
Tuesday 08 to 10.00
Wednesday closed all day
Thursday 08.00 to 10.00
Friday 08.00 to 10.00
Saturday 08.00 to 12.00
Been told houres won't change even after Covid, and 3 out of 4 exPHG jobs to go 2 been offered VR, awaiting formal approach . The feeling is Callers office to close completely.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Agree. Varying degrees of shambles!El-Bandito wrote:I will take a guess and say that 90% of offices will say YES. Some may say complete/absolute or total shambles though.

If we don't get allowed to roll-over mail on the mech where there isn't the capacity/time to sequence it, then it could be fun for DOsyubin282 wrote:I managed to do about 25% of my delivery today and the spent the rest of the time delivering parcels, still went past my time by 30 mins.

It will get left on York’s unless they put overtime shifts on to clear it as they won’t want to create anymore cut offs than there already is. On a personal level I have posted my Xmas cards out this week as I can see what’s going to happen.SpacePhoenix wrote:If we don't get allowed to roll-over mail on the mech where there isn't the capacity/time to sequence it, then it could be fun for DOs
