Factories - no mask = sent home, no pay.
Supermarkets - no mask, sent home.
Bars/restaurants - no mask, shut down.

Is there something built in to the psyche of people within this organisation?

Yes...... they’re dickheads!!!

Seriously though you’ve only got to look at how many of them behave week in week out, year in year out over trivial matters to know that this would be a problem. It’s like a baby’s playground most of the time. I can only assume the majority of postmen were either mummy’s boys or an only child.
There definitely is something strange going on in that respect and I'm guessing that it might be due to the fact that for many staff this is their first real job. I see people come into our place from other industries and they are shocked at what goes on.

As mentioned on other posts a rough count today :

30% not wearing a mask
due to medical condition that was either disclosed before or on Monday, 30% fully complying and rest wearing a mask but not correctly or taken off once boss isnt about. I did feel brave and asked 3 staff why no mask, 1 replied it’s all a hoax, 1 said it’s an invasion of my human rights  and 1 said as my Boss told me to wear it I decided hell no but told boss “ I feel faint when I tried out mask on Monday
It's time this was called out.
Almost 1/3 of an office unable to wear a mask for medical reasons just doesn't tally up with society in general. It's pathetic, and it undermines genuine RARE instances of people not being able to wear them.
In the case of NDC, where people are indoors for an 8hr shift, you need to bear one thing in mind.
Most of us only wear a face mask when doing shopping, for perhaps 20 minutes or maybe an hour at most. Wearing something on your face for up to 24x longer than you’ve ever previously done, while undertaking physical activity is an entirely different proposition. It’s perfectly possible that somebody wearing it for 20 minutes might have mild issues (especially the steaming-up of glasses, etc). To go from minimal wearing to have to wear it all day could perfectly well reveal respiratory issues that had not previously been apparent. So somebody who was not exempt on day 1 may legitimately find that they later become exempt *because* of following the rules

30% of people have a previously unknown underlying condition? Not a chance.

Lets consider this.

NHS staff have had to wear masks in the workplace for some time now. There are no exemptions for staff working in most areas. These tough old doctors and nurses are somehow managing to cope, but you reckon that us posties are much wimpier than those NHS staff and so can't cope as well as nurses do.

What a bunch of sissy wimps we must be. I hope that this never makes the press. We will rightly be a laughing stock around the world.

Regarding the “physical activity” and mask wearing at NDC, i’ve noticed this week in the time I am there that the folk who believe that time passes quicker when you’re doing something are the ones that are wearing masks, and those that view movement as a thing to be avoided as much as possible are the ones using their mask as a neck-warmer.

My manager tells me that he has been instructed by his superiors not to challenge anyone not wearing a mask.
So the whole thing is pointless.

Mandatory (n) - obligatory unless you don't want to.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

There should be a notice placed at the entrance of every Royal Mail office that reads this:

Are there people in your office that won't wear a mask, or wear it properly, but also refuse to van share?

Noticed thats those that If managers said no one was allowed to wear a mask indoors they'd be first to come in with 3 on their face.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Amid the ongoing outbreak, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated its research around masks, saying that wearing one not only protects others but also the person wearing the mask.

Previous guidance had rested on the idea that the main benefit of mask-wearing came from potentially stopping an infected person transmitting Covid to others.

The CDC referenced several studies, including one case where two Covid-positive hair stylists interacted with 139 clients - but of the 67 clients researchers tested, none developed an infection. The stylists and all clients had worn masks in the salon.

Another study looking into the outbreak aboard the UUS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier found mask-wearing seemed to have reduced the risk of virus transmission by 70%, the CDC said.

No need to buy a lanyard, 5 staff today decided after 3 days wearing a mask that it was causing them anxiety and boss accepted that, no questions asked.

Questions were put by several of us to union and management as to why more and more are not wearing masks or even wearing them properly. Reply was it’s a private conversation between boss and individual and boss has accepted that. People not properly wearing masks reply was “ I can’t go round checking everyone”
