Is your office a complete shambles?

Post by postslippete »

Special and Tracked items seem to be the priority but there are still dozens of Yorks full of non-tracked parcels from last week and 2 or 3 days worth of mail left in frames. Oddly enough we have taken on plenty of casuals plus several hire vans and yet we still don't seem to be clearing everything.

In previous years, managers were actually going out delivering the mail and packets to make sure the office was clear. Now they can just use the coronavirus as a convenient "excuse" to stay in the office doing feck all.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Today was concentrate on all the packets that failed miserably yesterday, so tomorrow will have double mail and probably being swamped with packets again. The country is in for a massive disappointment from Royal Mail from now onwards. The whole set up within the company is a disgrace, the only thing worse is the total silence from the CWU.

I am sure on average across all DOs nationwide we are handling double the amount of parcels we did same time last year. I wonder how bad it will get nearer to December.
Probably every courier firm will be handling at least double what they would have last year

Worst day I’ve seen in my near 20 years today. Lots of staff absent due to the CV19.
I estimate 30% of walks didn’t get touched and some of them haven’t been touched since Friday either.
Even during the SDD transition it wasn’t this bad.

A couple of senior looking managers flew in today. :cuppa

Is this a typical delivery office?
It's a typical day in our office. My walk is fine, but others haven't been touched for days. Stacks of gray boxes filled with letters, parcel sacks filled with more letters or untracked parcels, yorks filled with three or four-day old mail, and loads of D2Ds that haven't been delivered in weeks.

Yep.

At the end of every day there's undelivered stuff everywhere. Packets, mail, forwards and deads, walks not even touched never mind prepped.

Every day. Just stuff. Everywhere.

Bit of a mix here - single duties+rurals are doing ok. Park and loop duties on double frames failing miserably.

As usual there’s no plan. Yet I don’t know why a bit of thought isn’t given to it, it’s not that complicated. Just alternate rounds - eg a park and loop goes Monday/Weds/Fri one week, manned by 2 people (in separate vans). On the Tues/Thurs/Sat the tracked for that park and loop done on OT. Pay someone to do a few hours in the afternoon those days prepping that round so you’re not coming in to stacks of trays.

Instead you have Joe Bloggs with 2, sometimes 3 or 4 days worth of trays all stacked up trying to prep a double round, then at best he can only take a few loops because he’s getting out late and has all the parcels to focus on.

Overload 1 round with staff, attack it and get it cleared! Next day, same approach with another round.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

obviously every office is different how they deal with the situation
ours is a total farce, things were running not too bad then we lost quite a few for 2 or 3 weeks
now any normal capable manager alongside their fully trained line managers would assess each day as it comes, i get that it can change in an instant during these times, but how they remain employed at this level beggars belief at times.
i constantly see paired duties with 2 people who can drive with a massive backlog of stuff remain with 1 van, but they continually let some go with a van each who are up to date every single day, it's not rocket science to say their duty should fail every other day but will keep it to a minimum, but no :arrrghhh
some are pulling their hair out getting stressed out whilst others have it easy,
i told our main op manager on his rare visit recently and he agreed but has done absolutely zero about it,
let the s**t-show continue because it's going to get a lot worse

i think i get where you're coming from, but 90% isn't "cleared"
my argument is the remaining, and in your case 10% who get s**t on from a very great height whilst some others get a steady number day in day out
at ours, its the same "10%" every single day

As far as I am concerned it's not our problem but management's. If they can't get there s*** together and organise some sort of strategy, then they are up s*** creek without a paddle.

Work my hours go home and forget about work till the next time I go in.

Lack of vans is the main problem here. People coming in at 10 and not going out until 2

No real issues in my office, just the very occasional walk failure where letters are left in and just tracked get delivered.

Seems like all the problems in others offices stem from from van sharing, thankfully there's only 3 van share duties out of 65 in our office.

So much for van share being a more efficient and effective way to deliver mail.
