Because we’re delivering/collecting covid test kits so RM has a good excuse to go running to the courts again. BT in a worse situation as they want to cut jobs. I realise it’s frustrating for everyone atm but leaving the union is exactly what RM are after and before you know it we’ll all be on the same terms as DPD drivers. I agree that it’s a disgrace we’ve not been updated for weeks Terry needs to sort it out asap.worktotime wrote:illegal what for ? , we arent key workers or the 4th emergency service or whatever the union are calling us ,what delivering pizza leaflets etc and arent bt the same as us but they are looking at voting for i/a ? , we are a private company and not government owned.Jpro747 wrote:We’re key workers so not allowed to go on strike the courts would rule it illegal. like i said its f**k all to do with the goverment as we are a private company , and amazon delivery them as well but they arent daft enough to put there staff at risk of collecting them , what and you think it wont happen to us like all the other companys terms and conditions ? , like someone else has said we didnt vote for the company to drag our ballot out and talk s**t and by pass the union on what they want to do , and the cwu will allow them to get through xmas and the way we are being worked , we have lost the fight imo , well at least i will be saving £3.64 a week and they can do what they want as i have supported the union on everything over the years but f**k it now , as they dont even have the balls to tell the talks are going shite or are still even talking , and these new people havent changed . which i think most of us knew that .Jpro747 wrote:Because we’re delivering/collecting covid test kits so RM has a good excuse to go running to the courts again. I’m sorry but you sound like an absolute loony.
- we are in a pandemic. Finances have been hit massively by loss of d2d contracts, staff sickness, PPE. mail volumes, additional vans & running costs. Where do you expect the pay rise to come from? Dividends were cancelled to try and stem the flow of money pouring out of the business. There’s non use having a pay rise for a job that no longer exists.
Just as things looked to be turning a corner we’ve been struck with another lockdown. That’ll be another month where non-essential business won’t require sending out a d2d.
We also have the mandatory use of face masks in offices meaning an increase of spending on PPE.
Where does the left over money for a pay rise fit into this? As you like to put it “we’re a private company”. We can no longer be subsidised by the government. So tell me please, where do you find this additional money?
We are all living through a sh*t time currently and are fortunate to still be in employment albeit a slog
Do you need Terry & Dave to tell you this on a weekly basis or is it not blindingly obvious

To me, this "you should just be fortunate to still have a job" narrative, is the most "loony" thing I've read in this thread.
I think the country should feel lucky that we're still providing a service. We all should feel lucky that key workers are still keeping the country going.
For much of the year, almost 10 million of the country's workers were being "subsidised" by the government to sit at home in complete safety, and do literally nothing, many of them being paid more than most key workers. I'd consider that quite a "loony" situation, a government that values non-essential workers by paying them 30 grand a year to sit at home and do nothing, more than it values its key workers.
We didn't even get offered as much as a tax break, we just got the warm fuzzy feeling of still being allowed to have a job, and the patronising, "well at least you still have a job" pat on the back. And of course, post covid, will be the inevitable cuts to the service, our T&Cs, and the lovely tax rises to pay for government's disastrous running of the nation's finances.
It's amazing how many people will not only willingly bend over, but then thank them afterwards, and just be grateful for the experience.

Do you need Terry & Dave to tell you this on a weekly basis or is it not blindingly obvious, so you explain to me why the company havent gone to the goverment to ask for any funding to continue working through this as key workers ? ,and if the company wasnt earning any money or on the bones of its arse then why not furlough ? , and just to get this right my gripe isnt about a pay rise which im not interested in by the way , my problem is the culture , workload , the hour off the working week what we are owed , basically the 4 pillars agreement which we fought for .
Well said.
We have been hung out to dry here with Christmas level workloads for much of the past 10 months whilst the Government find up to £30,000 per year for people in other industries to sit safely indoors, and the kicker is it doesn't make our job going forward any more or less secure than other peoples - at least we have done 'our bit' though, eh.
Our office is cut to the bone with staffing, people leaving in droves and not being replaced - they are actively encouraging duties to only go out 3 times a week. That's with 0 covid related absences - it's much worse when there is.

Why isn’t the union encouraging us all to stick together, take no s**t off management regarding workload, and if it’s unsafe to work we should all walk out until it’s made safe. If we can’t go on strike then lets at least look at what we can do???

Pay rise doesn’t mean much to me. As a PTer there are other issues which annoy me more.
The biggest is the issue of holiday pay. It is an absolute disgrace. I wonder what would happen if every single RM employee owed money decided as from tomorrow to only work their contracted hours until it’s resolved? I reckon 80% of us have done overtime in the last year be it an hour once in a blue moon or regularly cramming 30 hours in a week. I don’t like the statement about hoping for a court date sometime in 2021. That’s far too vague. It’s going round in circles.
And yet is it really that complicated? It’s written in employment law that you must be paid your average hours worked. RM are refusing to pay it. I’m sure there are some lawyers at the top of their field who would love to get involved (for a decent percentage of the payouts of course). Is it really a difficult case for someone who knows what they are doing? I highly doubt it.

The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.
