Sadly not the case in mine, out of 18 van share duties I think 14 of them are now sharing again.terry2972 wrote:In my office of about 200 there is only about 3 pairs that go out in the same van

Realistically its a choice between van sharing or some delivering in the dark. I can't see any alternative to those two optionstoonshola wrote:Wouldn’t count on rm or the union having any sort of plan or giving us any help. It is going to be chaos though, cast your mind back to the parcels in April then add Xmas level parcels and it’s enough to make you dizzy. I’ll work over my time a bit to earn some money but I won’t be working in the dark. I’m hoping the business see sense this week and scrap van sharing again, the state the pandemic is in it should not be an option. I honestly don’t know how a national newspaper hasn’t hammered Royal Mail yet for allowing thousands of staff to sit 6 inches apart.
Anyway yeah I’m really dreading the next 3 months.

Start worrying when you see towbars being fitted to the vans.[/quote]

This Christmas is going to be unlike anything we have ever seen before. I hope the managers have a good plan.

I don't even understand this 'lockdown'...
All that seems to be changing is pubs, restaurants, gyms and high street shops will close.
It's not really a lockdown. People will still be going to work, people won't care about the rule about meeting 1 person only from another house, schools will still be open.
It just means shopping goes online..... which obviously means we are going to be overflowing with parcels.
I am surprised people have been going to restaurants, gyms and high street shops anyway.

the level of parcels in the system is going to break RM this time unless theyre pro active, the perfect storm has arrived.

Surely all they need to do is refuse to handle those being passed on to us by our rivals, especially as RM claim to be apparently ''making a loss'' on all these extra pkts and parcels we're handling.Postie45 wrote:the level of parcels in the system is going to break RM this time unless theyre pro active, the perfect storm has arrived.
My office has always retained the Amazon contract and at least 80% of what is now a full york of large/oversize parcels every day are Amazon.

They'd just take RM to court and would probably win, AFAIK it'd be illegal for RM to do thatwacko74 wrote:Surely all they need to do is refuse to handle those being passed on to us by our rivals, especially as RM claim to be apparently ''making a loss'' on all these extra pkts and parcels we're handling.

I thought it was only letters that fell under the USO forcing us into all manner of unprofitable and uneconomic business practices, DSA etc
But I thought as far as parcels are concerned we have complete commercial freedom to accept or refuse anything into our pipeline?

Pro active and royal fail should never been seen in the same sentence, utterly useless at anything they do.Postie45 wrote:the level of parcels in the system is going to break RM this time unless theyre pro active,

Last time schools were closed so we got rid of almost every packet, this time it is only partial lockdown and we have zero chance of coping with the amount we will get if they do not act on it . First off they need to get every driver a van or as many as the office need all staff on full time hours forget about letters stay one day behind with them until the rush is over, no letter days is a good way of keeping up with the work i bet they would get plenty of takers for prep only o/t in the afternoon.
