Lapsing rules?

riddler_uk wrote:Incredible how many different ways this gets interpreted (considering we are a union). A typical day at our office would be to take lapsing and “filter” your letters out to complete on time. Other times you would be asked to take just the Tracked/SDs on one rural and packets/Tacked/SDs on a 2nd rural delivery but with 2 lots of lapsing. There is no pressure to complete as long as Lapsing is done and tracked and specials are achieved. Despite delivery failures all the time they are looking to build in lapsing into the round permanently for some reason, strange times.
I wonder if this is to show much less duties failing as such. If everyone picks up a little bit of a duty (or a lapsed round) they can report it as a part failure or something?

There is no such thing as “filtering” .Postmen do not decide who does or does not get their post while out on delivery .

They shouldn't - but they do with the undocumented authority of Lino's/DOM's!!

All mail is 1st class when it arrives at the inward MC. The difference between 1st class and 2nd class is built into when 2nd class gets processed at the outward MC

That is what is being asked of us so it is a thing, just because its not happening in your office it doesn't mean it doesn't happen , you get to chose what calls you filter out so you can complete lapsing and your duty, it happens, the rep knows it happens , the area rep knows it happens.

Your paid to complete the duty your assigned to .its simple your first task is to complete your own duty, regardless what your manger says ,if you do think you can complete lappsing then take it out with you. There is bit of an a ongoing issue . In our office. Is that overtime staff are finishing .it whilst others are stil lappsing.I think they make deals with management were they pretend there taking lappsing when it's. Really there overtime.there's know such thing as local aggrement managers suit them self for an easier life not for the Good of there office ,which in turn causes friction amongst. staffAnd when you do return to office there nowhere to be found . Excuse. The grammer

Sounds like our office up here, half the lapse will go with people bullied into taking it. The rest the other half who stick up for themselves is gotten rid of by the docket kings who do deals. If they ever sat down and worked out what it was costing I would bet it would be cheaper to hire an extra member of staff to do the duty.

Before I go out I say I wont complete in my time, they say you must do lapsing first and then prioritize packets and tracked on your own round , no one has ever challenged me when I get back over what I bring back , why would they? I then leave the boxes of failed mail on my frame for all to see, im not sure what your point is to be honest.

Exactly what happens with me. I tell the manager i cant finish on time and cant do the lapsing, the reply 99% of the time is thin out on your own duty , but you must take the lapsing. And its been this way for years.

It makes sense to be honest.

-Postie can make sure he/she finishes on time.
-Jobs are cleared.
-Junk Mail scraps are not delivered and people can get those the next day instead.

It's the logical way to do things, why - because none of us are nostradamus, none of us can accurately guess what post to take to get us exactly up to our finish time leaving the depot on the dot. With this method you can adjust as you go and work it so you finish close to your time with more accuracy.

Everyone is being told (its not open to discussion) to tale lapsing every day, my duty is failing every day as im told to do lapsing first, some days half of my round is failing but lapsing still has to be done, i have questioned the logic but im not getting through. Our rep is a so lazy and useless and only sorts his mates out and is best mates with the area rep and spends all his time drinking coffee with the managers. Any advice please would be great,I have been a member for 30 years and have never felt so let down by our Union.
Surely right now Lapsing goes out of the window, you will be drowning in parcels and letters, junk mail and alike from now on. Surely no1 has time for lapsing at this time of year.

No they don't have time , but it goes on because managers are raking in bonus by covering up the true figures and bullying postman into taking it out. Its rife in RM and will continue to be until more postman stick up for themselves , because as i have found out myself as soon as i go in the office to say i cant complete the answer i get back is " WELL YOUR THE ONLY POSTMAN WHO CANT FINISH AS NO ONE ELSE HAS BEEN IN TO SAY THEY CANT COMPLETE" and then they come out with the daily traffic figures saying the mail is down. They really make it very uncomfortable for you when you challenge them and when your the only one they see you as some sort of troublemaker and it seems like your making a rod for your own back .

To right you all got to stand up sometimes or they will have you all doing everything when others have left it is better to do this together and make the manager do his job manage it him or her self or staff the office by telling the office manager to get more staff and bugger the bonus!
