parcel collection from customer's

It's a good idea...no it's a great idea, I saw somewhere that the likes of ASOS are included in it, that is a big money-spinner. Think ASOS is a 60p charge.
The problem is though as is with EVERYTHING that the business does is that it will be fubared by rouge management, cost cutting, and run of the mill tossers in the business, white collar or blue collar.

Most tell you to drop it at a local shop newsagent or small grocery shop in the area you don't even pay for it as amazon print the postage off you only need a printer and a box and to get to the shop!

The whole point is that you can sit on your arse and for 72p some other fecker can do the running around

There,s a comment in the News Section from some one who lives in the Scottish Highlands , No near by post box , No Problem Postman Collecting Items While On Delivery , Today Sorry you will have to book a collection on line , once i get notification i can take it

Because you will be doing something free of charge that Royal Mail now charge a fee for. The same reason you would not agree to redirect a customers mail if they asked you to before they moved. It would certainly leave you open to being taken down the conduct code.

Firstly it's not the same service. The new service is for pre-booked and it's tracked (or at least as far as I know, scanned on collection).

Collecting items that we've been doing for a while, the items aren't scanned or tracked, so it's a different service.

Secondly, it was made official a while ago. We can take items from customers. There was even a video about it.

Again, thats for the new service. If the customer doesn't want to use the new online booking service, they should be able to continue just handing over stuff to the postman.

I had no collections on the PDA this morning but was asked to take return parcels on a doorstep during the round.

Customer said they had booked online today. I explained that I had no collections showing for Tuesday and that they would be informed when the items would be collected.

It all felt a bit stupid as I could have taken them then and there. I felt the job will no doubt appear on the PDA tomorrow knowing full well there was nothing to collect if I had taken it today.

I called 2 different managers for advice but neither answered

Agreed , but its overriding what has been Custom & Practice in Mainly Rural Areas for many years

My mind might be playing tricks, but I'm pretty sure Custom & Practice was turned into official reality a couple of years ago. We were told we could and should accept items to post from customers whilst out on delivery. There was even a video. One if the few I've ever seen as I'm part-time and WTLLs are over by the time I start.

We haven't been told to stop just because there is a new service available. Maybe its just my office.

Yes you are right we did have a video on it not saying we were actively going out the way, but we could pick up mail from customers.
I always take mail from business customers if they were going to post it in a pillar box and as a lot of them have franking machines I'd always take packets and just add them to my collection.
As far as I aware and still believe it was all kosher.You could argue that the new collection system is different because packets are getting scanned and so tracked.

I had a customer trying to give me a misdelivered parcel from Hermes.
