I might be being a bit thick here but how can you scan two delivery routes into your PDA? When you logon and go to 'Outdoor' you have two2yearpostie wrote:Van driver needs to scan the hct route as well.clashcityrocker wrote:How do you do that if the collection is on your PDA?Gasman11 wrote: (if you're on a hct duty and some of the parcels are oversize you'd have to pass them on to your van partner instead).
fields to complete - one is your delivery and the other (if required) is your collection. How can you scan the second delivery route in?

Once you scan your own route you get a Collection menu at the bottom of the screen (with or without any collection locations). There is an option on it to Manage Collections and from there you can select to scan in another route. It will then add any collections off the other route, or tell you that there are no collections on it.
Had my first collection today and discovered that I had to scan the 2D barcode as the 1D one gave an error message.

72p for a collection is a really cheap fee, less than the price of a first class stamp, no doubt to encourage customers to use the service. Hermes currently do collections for £3.95 and many couriers have weight and size costs to collecting parcels so its a very competitive price.
RM stating that there will be a maximum of 5 customer collection points is a bit like stating that a duty will only have a maximum of 500 calls. Look around you in a delivery office, some frames might have 500 calls, some might have just 200, others nearly a thousand. This is the road that we are heading down.

I'd agree, I think the 5 pick up limit will be quietly forgotten.

Actually Hermes parcels can be dropped off at a collection point or collected from the customer, and for below 1kg the cost of collection is 72p....postslippete wrote:72p for a collection is a really cheap fee, less than the price of a first class stamp, no doubt to encourage customers to use the service. Always agree overtime if you go over, or cut off. Simple.Ali831 wrote:HCT walks won't be doing collections they said, it will be van drivers they said.. yeah right. Several HCT walks had collections come up on the pda this morning. Manager said it is what it is, deal with it parcels should only be small!!! So I collect my parcel, fortunately towards the end of my route, it was the size of a bed pillow, only weighed a couple of kg but filled up most of the trolley. We asked manager what happens if the collections are at the start of the walk when the trolley is already rammed full, his response do it on the way back then. Errr I've already walked 12+ miles and I'm now expected to go out of my way for collections and told no overtime of we go over. :(

I ain't lifting 20kgs from the floor into my van. The max weight of a pouch is (or used to be) 16kg , mail sack 11kgs so why are we being asked to deadlift 20kgs into the back of a van? And the cwu have agreed this?citypostie wrote:So you'd refuse them all because the maximum weight is 20kgSpacePhoenix wrote:If they're all Tracked then they could be up to 30kg eachGunner70 wrote:van share rounds, possible 50 packets at 20kg =1000 kg . maximum in van including driver 510 kg

What about a rural when you ARE the driver and foot all in one?Cucumber wrote:There's not a hope in hell this extra work is going to be split evenly when it really takes off. For the simple reason that you don't know if the person is sending a DVD or a huge box of clothes etc. It all needs to go on the driver, then the driver leaves a loop, at least.

What if your battery goes flat before you've done the collections?Jack1960 wrote:We had our training few weeks back , as long as the PDAs dont play up it seems a simple enough procedure , apparently you will be given the weight and dimensions of the items so if they are oversized the van duties will pick them up.Its 72 p an item.

Why would clocking on machines change them, they'll just clock in an hr early and still not get paid for it.toonshola wrote:Sad thing is the early runners who come in 40 mins early will just extend that to 60 mins early to make sure they can complete these collections. It’s genuinely depressing seeing people start early for no pay and nothing is done about it by the union or management. Imagine if you worked in Asda and kept coming in early for no reason to stack shelves/work on a till it’s bloody crazy. We have part timers on 26 hour contracts who almost work the same as the full timers for £120 a week less. Management know it happens and so does the union rep and nothing is done about it. Think Royal Mail might get a massive shock of how much less work gets done in delivery offices when they bring in clocking in machines.HTPostman wrote:I’m all for the business getting extra work but it’s the wrong time to start it. There’s the usual crowd who come in early to finish early but the rest of us will need to cut off to be able to do the collections or book OT (if allowed).
Plus I can see some customers being ‘surprised ‘ you’ve turned up early/late/when they are in the shower etc....’just hold on, I need to print off the label. Oh and I need to find some parcel tape too.’
A dedicated duty to do these collections would make much more sense.
The question is, if PDA actuals showed not one employee of RM was finishing early do we think we’d still be doing these?
