Also customers printing their own return labels which will be unreadable/scannable at times especially if left on doorsteps in the rain or do we not have to scan them? Zero mention of this from management and zero training as per usual.

This was my rural delivery at the start of December two years back. I only took the pic to show my DOM because he refused to believe I had no room for a pile of bulk and wouldn't get off his backside to come out to the yard and check. This was before the packet explosion we have now and probably the heaviest Christmas ever packet wise this year. This hasn't been thought through at all. Extra work is great for protecting jobs but it's not being implemented correctly.

You have read it right, but it is per duty - so a van share could potentially have double that!!!chocolatesaltyballs wrote:So up to 20kg per packet and up to 5 packets per address and up to 5 addresses per day? So potentially an extra 500kg load in an already packed van or am I reading this wrong?
Ridiculous to bring it in now. Some director was on Jeremey Vine on Radio 2 today mentioned about other companies doing it and DPD taking on extra staff - no mention of the staff levels at RM. A few texts read out saying about failures in delivery already but the director had gone by then.

Remember most of the vans can only take 800kg inc driver.fb1969 wrote:You have read it right, but it is per duty - so a van share could potentially have double that!!!chocolatesaltyballs wrote:So up to 20kg per packet and up to 5 packets per address and up to 5 addresses per day? Have just seen a item on BBC news. The customer handed the parcel to the postman and neither had masks on!

There's not a hope in hell this extra work is going to be split evenly when it really takes off. For the simple reason that you don't know if the person is sending a DVD or a huge box of clothes etc. It all needs to go on the driver, then the driver leaves a loop, at least.

It tells you whether the item is a large letter, small letter, small packet, etc.Cucumber wrote:There's not a hope in hell this extra work is going to be split evenly when it really takes off. I agree, the work won't generally be split evenly, but you will be aware how big each item might be if you look.

According to our wpc when we log on the pda shows the weight and dimensions of the parcels to be collected so you should have an idea of whether you have scope to be able to pick them up (if you're on a hct duty and some of the parcels are oversize you'd have to pass them on to your van partner instead).Cucumber wrote:There's not a hope in hell this extra work is going to be split evenly when it really takes off. How do you do that if the collection is on your PDA?Gasman11 wrote: (if you're on a hct duty and some of the parcels are oversize you'd have to pass them on to your van partner instead).
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

That is not going to go smoothly. Van drivers frequently have an interesting interpretation of what an HTC or golf trolley can hold.Gasman11 wrote:According to our wpc when we log on the pda shows the weight and dimensions of the parcels to be collected so you should have an idea of whether you have scope to be able to pick them up (if you're on a hct duty and some of the parcels are oversize you'd have to pass them on to your van partner instead).Cucumber wrote:There's not a hope in hell this extra work is going to be split evenly when it really takes off. So, we have a few possibilities:
A) The introduction of mandatory doorstepping for all packets and parcels regardless of signed for / special status.
B) The size limit for what constitutes an oversized parcel being reduced significantly and therefore passed to drivers. You’re going to need to have plenty of room in the trolley from the get-go if this takes off and collections are regularly expected. Of course, at Christmas plenty of vans are going to be stuffed to the brim, so it’s inevitable that the driver will have to pick and choose and that non-tracked parcels will arrive...whenever.
C) Mail gets left indefinitely regardless of class etc and becomes very much a “we’ll do it when we can” product.
Otherwise, someone on a trolley duty goes out full up, a couple of people aren’t at home for their parcel delivery and there’s then an awkward shaped box to collect. At that point they’re stuffed.

I had 3 people on my duty talking about this today as they had seen it all over the news, they were all planning on using it in the coming months and thought it was a great idea. If there’s more than 5 on a duty I can’t see RM turning people away. People in the more affluent duty’s will get hit the hardest as they can afford to pay the extra for the convenience.

Surely if you find you have some parcel collections when you scan your duty, you give some loops away?

This, when you scan your duty you will see what needs collecting and will be able to discuss with management, management will also have an overview of how many collection the whole office has that, and what duties will need a dig.twoloops wrote:Surely if you find you have some parcel collections when you scan your duty, you give some loops away?
