Tracked with a specific named safe place printed on the parcel takes the responsibility away from you if it goes missing. The tracking number shows the dedicated safe place electronically which means there's proof you were told to leave it there. A note in the door etc has no audit trail if it goes missing

Recently had several Amazon tracked packets with "Enclosed porch" printed in the safeplace box on the label.
And yet the delivery addresses do not have an enclosed porch, or any porch at all for that matter, even had it for a second floor flat!
The question arises, are people entering this on a form when they are ordering (seems unlikely if you don't actuall have a porch), or Amazon just sticking it on there on the offchance that someone has an enclosed porch?

You can select a safe place on your amazon account. Mine is set up so they know to deliver to my neighbour when I’m not home. That hasn’t stopped them throwing it in the bushes in the pouring rain a couple of times though.ripio wrote:Recently had several Amazon tracked packets with "Enclosed porch" printed in the safeplace box on the label.

I have never specified a safeplace on my amazon account and received a parcel (that fit through my letterbox yay) with enclosed porch as my safe place. I live in a tenement. Think amazon might be just adding it to its parcels.

The reality is the only place that's safe is handing it directly to the customers hand. Anywhere else such as shed, greenhouse, storage box, enclosed porch, recycling container etc the reality is if you can put the thing in there, someone can just as handy follow you & take it.TheTrolleyMan wrote:No such thing as a safe place. , it should be called " unattended place "

Even giving it to the customer doesnt stop them claiming they never got itThatsNotPlumb wrote:The reality is the only place that's safe is handing it directly to the customers hand. The important part is where it is scanned - management will look at the GPS of where it was scanned and if it was scanned on the correct door step or property then they generally go back to customer and say they must have got it.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Its possible but highly unlikely many would have the balls to claim this when they know the postie knows they handed it to them. That opens them up to a potential fraud charge too, ive never heard of a customer claiming they didnt recieve a package where the postie claims they handed it to them, its probably happened but im sure its very, very rare. its much easier for people to see their package in the shed then claim someone must have taken it in the time between the postie left it and they went to look for it.Acca Dacca wrote:ThatsNotPlumb wrote:Even giving it to the customer doesnt stop them claiming they never got itTheTrolleyMan wrote:No such thing as a safe place. , it should be called " unattended place "
As others have pointed out - do not leave packages unattended - ever, even "safeplace" is at posties discretion - 739 it.

Strictly speaking shouldn’t leave anything unless stated. However if you get to know your customers and speak to them ask where they would like them left and what their preferred neighbours are, it will save you time and if
Your lucky they will remember your efforts come Christmas £££. Hardly write 739s out now which makes job way easier.

thats still at your risk, and i know posties who have had customers claim the parcel has gone missing despite this oral agreement. Maybe in those circumstances the package has genuinely been stolen, but regardless its still the risk on you.postmanzach wrote: However if you get to know your customers and speak to them ask where they would like them left
