That's just being silly. Surely everyone knows Royal Mail wouldn't put that amount of effort in.

Obviously from a safety point of view, it's a non starter, no matter how much people twist it.
I have real sympathy with people who feel forced to choose to van share as the only way of getting away from the afternoon shifts. This shouldn't be happening.
But like anything in Royal Mail, who is actually going to volunteer to give up a way of working to something else that makes your job more difficult.

Only two takers at our place and too few takers for the afternoon shifts due to various reasons so the response was a letter to all staff giving 28 days notice regards all staff to do afternoon shifts on a rotation ie 1 week early 1 lates.

Office is seething wouldn't be surprised if there was a walkout!!

Where abouts is this? You don’t have to give your office but just the area.

Some will have to do the afternoon shifts as there won't be enough vans. Having it done on rotation is probably the only fair way to do it. Either that or the higher seniority staff do the mornings and the low seniority staff do the afternoons

I don't agree with it, but it's the natural route I thought they'd go down, especially coming up to Christmas.

What hours constitute an early shift and what hours an afternoon shift?

How can this work anyway when most of the passengers are folk who don't drive?
Very few of our van share pairings were with two drivers before van sharing was stopped.

If that's the case and they are forcing you on to "shifts" then I would be asking for a shift payment which the union should be all over. When I started you got an additional payment due to the 5 am starts and that came under what used to be called IIRC "unsociable hours". Any other company I've ever worked for has paid shift money on any hours that where outside of what is generally seen normal working hours.

I think your manager is just being the usual d!ckhead bully you'd expect from rm and has thrown their teddy out of the cot because they've not got what they wanted. Pretty sure the rm said themselves no one would be forced onto afternoons so maybe the whole office should put in a grievance against management and let the higher ups sort it out. At the very least get the area rep in.

Car-sharing has been a factor in the spread of Covid-19 during an outbreak in the Western Isles, the local health board has said.

"NHS Western Isles said through contact-tracing it had become aware of people in different households car-sharing.

It said the virus could spread "quickly and easily" in cars, even if people wore face coverings."

But, but, but. Dr Shaun has done his research!
Car sharing could spread it using the same canteen could taking your kids to school could sleeping in the same bed in fact everything we do could, so either stop doing everything or be careful and lead as normal a life as possible.

Although Dr Shaun seems to love going by the Doctor moniker I have to point out that he's not a medical doctor.
It's not even a PhD thing.
It's a "Professional Doctorate" thing in coaching and mentoring, health, wellness and cuddles you do on day release from work.

You're not really getting it are you.
The options aren't stop doing everything or stop doing nothing.
The sensible course is to stop doing the things you don't need to do.

The fact that he uses the title says it all about him then - thats embarassing. I know people with PHDs who dont even use it unless medical.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

I agree that when people feel the need to start putting letters after their names to justify themselves it's really sad. It shows a lack of self confidence. :cuppa
