Don't forget to add time onto the above figures for the new regime of wiping down all 'touchpoints' with antiviral wipes before and after your delivery/collection.

Yet more red tape fiasco,do the checks but obviously don’t do them as it takes too long and will impact on if you can complete your delivery!they turn a blind eye to it until they use it against you,loads of policy and procedures written down to follow,but hardly ever adhered to because of the impact on actually doing the job,safely,securely,and correctly in your delivery time.

Sooo true. Part of the vehicle check is to check if the horn is working. Only time I heard a horn was the day the H&S official guy was in. The dom told everyone to test their horn before leaving the yard.

We now have 4 vans off the road ready for a trip to workshops and the debarkle process of hiring a van against them is painfully slow and laughable,getting them authorised by some big wig who hasn’t a clue,until rounds fail because they haven’t a van,and can you drive this unroadworthy van down to workshops?... mmmmmmm no because it’s unroadworthy,your the boss you take it down!, brilliant

Your allowed by law to take any vehicle to a workshop MOT or not that is what the PMT1 is for.

No your not, if it’s not roadworthy it needs to go on the back of a low loader. No form designed by RM supersedes
that. I know it goes on but if you get stopped by the police or heaven forbid have an accident and the police can show a vehicle defect it will be the driver up before the judge, the PMT form will be the nail in your coffin if that’s the case as they will have it in writing that you knew it was unfit for the road.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but just to clarify what can and can't be driven to the workshops for repair. You basically have to identify what fault you have and then find the defect in the MOT inspection manual here

If it's classed as a Minor defect you can still drive it anywhere.
If it's a Major Defect you can drive it to a place of repair only.
If it's a Dangerous defect you are not allowed to drive it and it must be transported to a place of repair on a recovery truck. You could carry out a temporary fix which could change the categorisation from a dangerous to a major or minor which then would allow you to drive it, but I doubt Royal Mail would allow for this.

If an MOT has expired it can only be driven to an MOT test centre or a place of repair where a pre-arranged appointment has been made, this is providing it has no Dangerous faults.

If your driving HGV's then there is another inspection manual here for those.

Hope that helps anyone who is unsure.
