We were told not to expect the worst you could be collecting just 5 Christmas cards etc, was this passed by the union?

Why would someone arrange and pay for the collection of 5 Christmas cards?

Because it only cost 75p and if you’re housebound it’s worth it

You'd think that would be the sensible thing to do but collection drivers won't get a sniff of this work. Royal Mail are running down the collection duties rather than adding to them.

Can somebody confirm two fourissues, as I asked and got different answers. How many parcel r we allowed to pick up on round. I was told 5 parcels but from 5 house which is 25.Hiw do the customer approach us,do they hav to leave parcels on floor and stay 2m away and not sign our pda. The same procedure as we do when delivering, wot if they in isolation. What size parcels. I understand why RM are doing this but wot a crap idea in the current climate. How did cwu, h&s sign this off

There are about 6 or 7 videos covering different aspects of this. Videos should be shown in WTLL.

Essentially when you scan your route it'll load the list if there are any collections. For paired duties you scan both routes and decide who collects what. It lets you hid the ones u arent doing.

Upto 5 addresses per duty with each address having upto 5 parcels. Thats upto 50 items per pair duty.
Social distances still applies.
Scanning the parcels is the customers receipt. If they want a paper receipt tell them to shove it to a post office.

Its basic stuff once you've done it a couple of times.

So can you do it all at the end of your delivery, so you can get up to 50 parcels in your van or are they time specific?

I’m all for the business getting extra work but it’s the wrong time to start it. There’s the usual crowd who come in early to finish early but the rest of us will need to cut off to be able to do the collections or book OT (if allowed).

Plus I can see some customers being ‘surprised ‘ you’ve turned up early/late/when they are in the shower etc....’just hold on, I need to print off the label. Oh and I need to find some parcel tape too.’

A dedicated duty to do these collections would make much more sense.

The question is, if PDA actuals showed not one employee of RM was finishing early do we think we’d still be doing these?

Sad thing is the early runners who come in 40 mins early will just extend that to 60 mins early to make sure they can complete these collections. It’s genuinely depressing seeing people start early for no pay and nothing is done about it by the union or management. Imagine if you worked in Asda and kept coming in early for no reason to stack shelves/work on a till it’s bloody crazy. We have part timers on 26 hour contracts who almost work the same as the full timers for £120 a week less. Management know it happens and so does the union rep and nothing is done about it. Think Royal Mail might get a massive shock of how much less work gets done in delivery offices when they bring in clocking in machines.

I really don't see any point in coming in early, we're always waiting for packets to get sorted as it is! You wouldn't get out any earlier.

One of the patronising videos showed a postie with an LWT happily collect what I'd call a BT Modem sized box and pop it in one of the pouches which was conveniently empty. No mention of days like today when it is peeing down, or the day when the pouch still has a load of post in it, or the day when the pouch already has 739'd items in it etc etc

That's coz whoever thought of it has never done a delivery. I once said to my manager, I'll be a bit later today coz it's pissing down all day. They said why does that slow you down. Honestly. They have not a clue most of em.

Plenty of managers think the opposite.That your walk should take half the time because you should be ripping it because you want to spend less time in the rain.

hows this going to work when a lot of staff are using there cars on delivery surely there must be a dedicated driving duty to do these parcel collections until this is over and new revisions are put in place rather than stress out postman even more

Cars shouldn't be getting used on delivery though.
