I'm not against parcel collections as all additional business is good for the company. But they say its only limited to 5 calls per customer. Does anyone with half a brain really believe that this will still be the case in the future??

Why has the Union just accepted this? Any credible Union would only be agreeing to any new changes in return for something for their members.

Six days a week. And as mentioned before, for van shares there is the potential of 50 packets in one day.

One of the patronising videos showed a postie with an LWT happily collect what I'd call a BT Modem sized box and pop it in one of the pouches which was conveniently empty. No mention of days like today when it is peeing down, or the day when the pouch still has a load of post in it, or the day when the pouch already has 739'd items in it etc etc

No mention of it or sign of any training as of yet.

If it's anything like collections from a PO Mondays will be the busiest day by far.

Correct, it could be a designated duty or 2 per office just doing customer collections alone.

I don’t know what cut the post office take at the moment when this stuff is dropped off there but I would bet it would be less than what it would cost RM to put one dedicated duty on picking up this stuff from peoples houses.

Could perhaps be combined with doing all the SDs for the office. The duty could do all the SDs then do these collections

I’m all for the business getting extra work but it’s the wrong time to start it. There’s the usual crowd who come in early to finish early but the rest of us will need to cut off to be able to do the collections or book OT (if allowed).

Plus I can see some customers being ‘surprised ‘ you’ve turned up early/late/when they are in the shower etc....’just hold on, I need to print off the label. Oh and I need to find some parcel tape too.’

A dedicated duty to do these collections would make much more sense.

The question is, if PDA actuals showed not one employee of RM was finishing early do we think we’d still be doing these?
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

Sad thing is the early runners who come in 40 mins early will just extend that to 60 mins early to make sure they can complete these collections. It’s genuinely depressing seeing people start early for no pay and nothing is done about it by the union or management. Imagine if you worked in Asda and kept coming in early for no reason to stack shelves/work on a till it’s bloody crazy. We have part timers on 26 hour contracts who almost work the same as the full timers for £120 a week less. Management know it happens and so does the union rep and nothing is done about it. Think Royal Mail might get a massive shock of how much less work gets done in delivery offices when they bring in clocking in machines.

A number of years ago royal fail went on the offensive to shutdown loads of PO's and to centralise everything. Well that's another failed efficiency drive by the fuc£witts at the top. If they hadn't shutdown all those PO's they'd have had additional infrastructure to process more parcels and to do click and collect way before other companies did and all while being a 10-15 minute walk for a vast majority of customers to their local PO. Amazon and a number of other couriers now either put in collection boxes at petrol stations or use newsagents and other small local shops for customers to drop off or collect parcels.

Another short-sighted initiative by the company chasing a quick return which has left them playing catch up and by the looks of what's posted on here very badly thought out and implemented.

Thank fuc£ I don't have to do this because it would have been 50 parcels a day collected from customers as loads of them did ebay selling on my old duties. We used to struggle getting in all our packets 80% of the time never mind picking up an additional 50 a day to bring back along with 20-30 notice lefts each day. And with Christmas on the horizon the mind boggles at the chaos this is going to bring.

Only suggestion is to start on time, have your breaks, use a trolley and all the other stuff and prove to the short-sighted, inept, bureaucratically-personality-disordered middle managers that they are fuc£ing useless and it doesn't and never will work when the jobs done properly. Then just sit back and watch Rome burn as the chaos ensues in DO's up and down the country. :cuppa
