Yorkshire van share trial?
I still don't get it. Driving instructors are allowed to work with masks, so why can't we sit in a van for a max of 10 to 15 mins at a time, next to the person you've just spent and he and a half stood within 2 metres prepping your walks? It's crazy. Makes no odds to me but it is ludicrous when you really think about it.

You cant be a driving instructor unless there's two of you in the vehicle.
You can be a postie without two in a vehicle.
What's crazy and ludicrous about that?

Don't know about England, but in Scotland from tomorrow, you can't car share with other households.

I actually hope we don't return to van share any time soon. Having started on a bike, then forced to van share, a decade later I much prefer working on my own. I've realised a lot of the pressure we have been under in the past has often come from the rushing partner you work with and his/her needs, not your own.

You are right, there are many people sharing a frame prepping their walk but this should not be happening !rambo1 wrote:I still don't get it. Because you/they aren't supposed to be doing that in the first place. Two wrongs don't make a right and all that, but I'm guessing you know that as you aren't the one doing it.iHateD2Ds wrote:You are right, there are many people sharing a frame prepping their walk but this should not be happening !rambo1 wrote:I still don't get it. I swear that some people in offices are actually trying to create contradictions like the above to justify not giving a damn.
That would be all fair and well if they kept their distance from everyone else, but we know they don't. Who knows if they also behave irresponsibly away from work too, during a global pandemic. It would be a safe bet they don't.
I've seen it mentioned a few times on here that it's only a few minutes here and there in the van. Wrong. It can easily be up to 40 minutes a day in the cab sharing the same air. Would anyone on here fancy their chances breathing in the same air as a potential covid + person for 40 minutes? - experts reckon 15 minutes is enough time to easily contract the virus when in close contact with someone else.
Last week, in England, around 20% of new positive tests were traced back to the workplace - basically people caught the virus at work. That's food for thought, but I wonder what number it will take until DO's that aren't 'covid safe' to take notice.

Agree with most of what you’ve said but if you actually look at the risk factorS for under 1metre in such a small space like the vans would be ( mostly ) It’s much higher a risk.Cucumber wrote:Because you/they aren't supposed to be doing that in the first place. Even with masks ( they are only there to mitigate not eliminate risk ) the virus is airborne so the eyes are the easiest way to infect someone the risk is massive.
Why are the Union even agreeing to this is absolutely beyond me ....fancy risking your life for shareholders?

If that's where we differ (i.e. you think it's even more of a risk than I've painted), then I fully agree - I just didn't want to go full on too much with it.Pidleypoo wrote:Agree with most of what you’ve said but if you actually look at the risk factorS for under 1metre in such a small space like the vans would be ( mostly ) It’s much higher a risk.Cucumber wrote:Because you/they aren't supposed to be doing that in the first place. Simple facts are that 2 people sharing a van for 30-40 minutes a day, if one of them is contagious with coronavirus, the other person is getting it.

Same could apply to at anytime in the office in a morning if you're place is like ours. Van share partners are even helping each other to load the van.Cucumber wrote:If that's where we differ (i.e. you think it's even more of a risk than I've painted), then I fully agree - I just didn't want to go full on too much with it.Pidleypoo wrote:Agree with most of what you’ve said but if you actually look at the risk factorS for under 1metre in such a small space like the vans would be ( mostly ) It’s much higher a risk.Cucumber wrote:Because you/they aren't supposed to be doing that in the first place. Yeah that’s all , having had to know lots about all the risks with being diabetic myself and family members being very high risk then I need to know exactly what the dangers are.Cucumber wrote:If that's where we differ (i.e. you think it's even more of a risk than I've painted), then I fully agree - I just didn't want to go full on too much with it.Pidleypoo wrote:Agree with most of what you’ve said but if you actually look at the risk factorS for under 1metre in such a small space like the vans would be ( mostly ) It’s much higher a risk.Cucumber wrote:Because you/they aren't supposed to be doing that in the first place. Most people are thinking the right way about this, but there are enough only putting themselves first thinking 'I'll be ok', whilst neglecting to think of consequences should they contract then pass on.

The talk in our office is that it will be back to van sharing soon, and that's from the manager in a meeting who seemed to disregard what the opinion of our (almost non-existence) union was.
