sorting on conveyor belts

Post by wowiezowie »

Our mail centre is currently moving from sorting 1C on old fashioned crashes/fittings to sorting on conveyor belts. Just wondered if anyone else does this and their opinions? Personally I hate sorting on a moving conveyor belt, it's like working in a chicken factory. It also creates a lot more mis-sorts as you have to try and throw a packet the whole length of the belt to get it in a far away york. It also creates an unfair workplace as the person standing near the end has to sort a lot more as the person in the middle can only grab a few packets as they go past. I can't believe how it has come to this, standing at a belt for 5 hours like a production line. Soul destroying.

Once the flat part is full, place a packet to block the beam so the belt doesn't move and then BOTH sort until the flat part is empty. Then you remove the packet blocking the beam until the flat part is full again

It's not as bad as you think. The person on the end controls the speed by blocking the beam and stopping the belt. Once the belt is fully loaded you just stand there and sort. The belt is not constantly moving.

In my MC you'd probably end up being moved to another section if literally all you did on the conveyor was tipping
