There is probably more to it than just clocking in and out. Which is possibly why it hasn't already been introduced.

We already have to do the ''Consolidation'' scan at the locker at the end of our working day, which although it's only supposed to be used for ensuring all collections have been completed I'd be extremely surprised if it's not being used to monitor finish times.

I think that (banking hours) could well be the natural conclusion.Zicomurphy wrote:Certainly mad if they want it without watertight safeguards in place. I would want a guarantee of no docking of pay if Royal Mail can’t provide me with work to fill my hours. I would also want a guarantee of set start and finish times each day. No sending me home 45 minutes early on a Monday and Tuesday and then telling me I have to work till 5pm on Wednesday.Ren Hoëk wrote:You lot are mad if you think you want clocking in and out.

Wonder how this will effect those currently using own cars and finishing on delivery? If they need to go back to depot and clock out it might be further discouragement from using their own vehicles. Mind you even non drivers or those who are making their own way to first delivery point still FOD, so surely they won't be asked to walk back to office and click out?

Will the managers have to clock in and out as well?

I would think not, as they are salary based.sorefeet17 wrote:Will the managers have to clock in and out as well?

Indeed, and dumb as so many of them appear to be, they're not dumb enough to call for the introduction of a clocking system and the inflexibility that that would entail.mickeymacca wrote:I would think not, as they are salary based.sorefeet17 wrote:Will the managers have to clock in and out as well?
Signing on and off, those on the clock in other industries must dream of that.

I see a lot comment and I was just wondering in the case this automatic clock in will be introduce and also don’t forget the Monday to Friday will also may introduce as well,
This is the first imagine.
Second as we all be witness of the coronavirus or even just multiple people absences.
My question is would be the person that hold that duty to bring out 3 days worth of mail packet?
And also how many people you would find that after they finishing time either in the dark winter or in the hot summer afternoon Would be willing to do overtime? (I KNOW THAT STILL FIND SOMEONE BUT THE PERCENTAGE I GUESS IS REALLY LOW)

It won’t incentivise any one, all it will achieve is to drag everyone down so that there will be no point in working at a brisk rate.

The system is called Automatic Hours Data Capture.
It's more than just a clocking in and out machine they're after, it's a system that can monitor and apply banking/annualised hours.
They think that it will cut overtime by as much as a third.
They think that it will allow for a system where you work more hours during the busy periods and less during the quite periods.
They think they can use it to closely monitor performance to flag up members who seem to be taking longer than 'average'.
The data this system will provide when used with the pda data will give them a complete picture in seconds of your working day, week, month, year.
What could go wrong?

If you don't already know there's no point in working at a "brisk rate" I doubt clocking in can help you.deltaforce wrote:It won’t incentivise any one, all it will achieve is to drag everyone down so that there will be no point in working at a brisk rate.
I've been aiming for adequately average since lapsing first appeared on the scene about 15 years ago.

Well if it works like it does in my MC then it will be you have to use your ID card to pass through the barrier to get in (That is when you will be clocked in as present) You will do this in reverse when leaving that will be when you are off the clock. The fact is the PDA has GPS as does the van so RM already know where you are . Remember your annual leave is now booked in hours so would fully expect RM to try and use an hour bankage system so yep on quiet days you can go home early but those hours will be made up on the busier days.
My main hope is the sheer laziness of Managers will mean none of this will be enforced especially in Walk Offices it would mean the Manager would have to Work THEIR scheduled hours not just go home when everyone is out on walks.

Royal Mail will get no more work out of them than if they had went home at 1pm so its futile
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

I am surprised switching to monthly pay hasn't reared its head. i assume it will mean job losses in the pay department.
