All post is always and has always been due to go out that day, whether it does or not is down to individual circumstances in individual units.
Nothing has changed this week and Covid-19 was never an excuse it was a mitigating factor and still is.
As usual you are making stuff up.
Why I have no idea.
No shielding quick testing so covid is no excuse as far as i can tell, poor management if others are finishing early they should be helping clear the backlog and rep should be on it for you.
It's more usual for work to be left in the office than cleared when anyone is off now, be it sick absence or holiday. At least in our office? Prioritise the tracked to help cover up all the failings and management really don't care what happens to the rest. I've come in to a weeks worth of work before! Management don't have to face the public so why should they care?
What I find laughable is that we haven't been able to cope over the summer months when it's been heavier then xmas. So what do management think is going to happen in the run up to xmas? They have no plan and no clue we are run by idiots!

It's going to be chaos with rolling cutoffs every day on most if not all walks.
The views I express here are mine alone and do not represent the views of Royal Mail Group.

So lets put it another way. The individual circumstance in our unit is the office budget. We have probably a quarter of duties failing everyday because Royal Mail don't want to get the duties covered. It costs money to get the duties covered and they appear quite reluctant to pay people. Then again it wasn't so long ago that RM said that they were losing over a million quid a day - but its not because of Covid, its because our costs being too high. In other words, its quite acceptable that there are 2 or 3 days worth of mail in the frames and you can only manage 4 loops. Royal Mail willingly accepted Ofcoms fine a while ago and maybe they should have fined our business more because Royal Mail just aren't taking our USO seriously at all. I can't deny that our business is changing beyond all recognition but these are worrying times, its becoming acceptable amongst Royal Mail and the CWU that its quite OK to keep running the service down beyond all recognition in order to cut costs.
Are these failing duties ever getting reported at all?? All our managers seem bothered about are the tracked items and not the post.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
I've pretty much done FT weeks recently despite being on a 28hr contract, which is exhausting but alright. It's keeping me ticking along.
What makes it infinitely more stressful is that I'm on afternoons at the moment (not inherently stressful), but the amount of stuff that's been missorted by the early lot does my head in. What's bad is when you say to your manager "I'd rather come in early to sort it myself", it falls on deaf ears. Probably cause so-and-so who is sorting it badly doesn't wanna give up their early finish time, and thus their van.
Fortunately my managers appreciate that I'm able to clear whatever isn't taken.
