But most delivery offices aren't van sharing, postieblueshirt. Those that are happen to be run by careless DOMs.postieblueshirt wrote:If you go back to the start of these threads you will find that all of us were asking why are we still van sharing??? We shouldn't be van sharing.in the beginning we were the ones who asked for it to be stopped..

As of today, there are about 7,000 per week. COVID-19 deaths have been declining, but positive cases themselves have seen a rise.
Positive test results will rise as testing increases simple manipulation of figures

Yep, but let's hope the authorities that record the tests in the UK don't follow that idiot Donald Trump's advice by reducing the number of tests so that fewer positive cases are recorded.shepherdess wrote:Positive test results will rise as testing increases simple manipulation of figuresCucumber wrote:I stand corrected, I was using the last 3 days as an average which came out as a shade under 10k p/w.PostmanBitesDog wrote:Not quite 10,000 cases per week, but pretty close to it.Cucumber wrote:So as things stand - 10,000 new cases (and the rest) in the UK each week, plus no vaccine, van shares won't return.

The number of daily tests processed has been relatively flat for 6 weeks since the middle of July at around 170,000 daily average. In fact the most testing done was over a month ago at just over 200,000.shepherdess wrote:Cucumber wrote:I stand corrected, I was using the last 3 days as an average which came out as a shade under 10k p/w.PostmanBitesDog wrote:Not quite 10,000 cases per week, but pretty close to it.Cucumber wrote:So as things stand - 10,000 new cases (and the rest) in the UK each week, plus no vaccine, van shares won't return.

It's not a "simple" manipulation of figures.
It's all available on the government website if you can be arsed.

When Royal Mail employ someone, and the in the job description it specifies driving as part of the job, do they then not get rid of people that fail the driving assessment.

We have a postie that joined about 4 years ago. They joined at another office and the first time they ever drove an RM van they crashed it in the yard. They were taken off driving, transferred to our office and have never driven - and as far as they are concerned, they never will drive!!

And at the moment for the last 6 months take the van back and pouch off while partner gets to drive back home and put his feet up?.
If I had to work with someone like that then I would expect them to take one of my loops to accommodate any big parcels that I would have to deliver. And if they don't then I would drive round and deliver all the big parcels first. I know Royal Mail don't care but its all about creating fairer workloads IMO. Like you said, they walk home whilst you still have to pouch off and put all the equipment back
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

I failed it about 5 years ago. Was told not to worry and that I could still drive all the CDV’s because I had had the changeover just not anything bigger.rodtheplod wrote:When Royal Mail employ someone, and the in the job description it specifies driving as part of the job, do they then not get rid of people that fail the driving assessment.

One of the reasons I'm not looking forward to van sharing is the issue of climbing into the vehicle just as a partner I'm with commits a despicable act of stinky flatulence. Yes, it's happened to me before. Disgusting. If they feel there's a big gas bubble coming down their waste pipe, then they should climb out of the van, let it rip in the street and then step back in. Don't do it inside the van!

Aren't the LAT hubs meant to be doing all the large at some point? So eventually there'll be no large to deliver if your not a LAT duty

"Meant to be". We all know it won't happen like that.SpacePhoenix wrote:Aren't the LAT hubs meant to be doing all the large at some point? So eventually there'll be no large to deliver if your not a LAT duty
We are meant to be delivering nothing larger than shoebox size, since they brought in van share. That lasted about 10 minutes.

We had our delivery sector manager in our office today he told us there is no way we will be going back to two in a van any time soon, he also asked us how many would be interested at starting at 4 and finishing before 12 so the afternoon staff would be able to use our vans, he said other offices re looking at bringing in 12 seater vans, apparently they are allowed to have 4 passengers in these vans, they are also close to an agreement with the CWU and the regulator regarding five day delivery of mail, seven day service for parcels, our office is going to become a parcel hub so we will be delivering parcels for two other delivery offices and, there will be no compulsory redundancies.

Seems legit although I do find the 4-seater van thing a bit confusing? Thanks for the update thoughbillycat wrote:We had our delivery sector manager in our office today he told us there is no way we will be going back to two in a van any time soon, he also asked us how many would be interested at starting at 4 and finishing before 12 so the afternoon staff would be able to use our vans, he said other offices re looking at bringing in 12 seater vans, apparently they are allowed to have 4 passengers in these vans, they are also close to an agreement with the CWU and the regulator regarding five day delivery of mail, seven day service for parcels, our office is going to become a parcel hub so we will be delivering parcels for two other delivery offices and, there will be no compulsory redundancies.

I'd imagine there will be a very, very short queue for volunteering for anything, be it earlier starts, shift patterns given how the last few months have been managed.
