Advice about Lapsing.

I have been told that lapsing has been reinstated in my delivery office. What I want to known is when this is preformed.
I was told at first that it was done at the end of your delivery if you had time after returning to the office to collect the lapsed mail.
Not I have been informed that it is to be done before the start of my delivery. Which is right?

We’ve always been told to it first, not that I have ever taken it.

We have always done it first but if you're going to complete anyway I don't suppose it matters.
But it's always taken with us when we leave and not returned to the office for.

In our DO it doesn't matter. Generally it's done first, but sometimes a postie taking out the lapsed mail along with their regular loops might plan to leave it to last. It could be due to where the lapsed loops are located (on the way to the regular duty so it can be done first, or further past the regular duty so it's best to do it afterwards).

So really as long as you take it with you it can be cleared at any time. As long as it does not take you over your delivery time. But you can not bring it back.

It should only be done when you've got enough time in your contracted duty time to do it.

Managers will play mind tricks by 'telling' you to do it at the beginning as most posties are less likely to leave
some of their 'own' duty as they know it'll only have to be delivered the next day. Our managers don't have a clue
what loops of lapsing are closest/furthest to the beginning or end of the nominated duties.

most offices this week should not be lapsing due to the amount of mail / parcels coming through each office.

the model week will show when you can and can not lapse and the weeks from now leading upto and after christmas will show that Lapsing should not be happening due to workload.

mail may still be lightish but packets are starting to ramp up again.

It seems that in my office some duties are permanently lapsed no matter what the traffic volume is.

we all got together a while back and all did lapsing at the end...ie return to the office and collect it......boss hates it...there will be loads of lapsing left in...and suddenly he has to spend overtime covering it.
suddenly union advised us all to do it 1st......funnily enough rep doesnt lapse....go figure

In our office, lapsing happens 6 days a week, 52 weeks a year and regardless of volumes! And this has recently been increased from typically 60 extra calls to 80 extra calls. I'd be interested to know how many calls are typically included in one person's lapsing.

We where told it should take no more than 20 minutes to complete it. In some case it takes 5 minutes to get to 1 delivery point and another 5 minutes to get back to the rest of the delivery points. I.E. House number 15 then 5 minutes to walk to 17 and 5 minutes to get back to 19 and when continue the rest of the street.

Tell them you dont have time and just do your own round and take your meal relief and come back at your finish time

The management treat us like little kids who need to be told what to do regardless of the fact we know how long it will take us with or without the extra work.

At last someone in my position do we work in the same office?? lol we lapse regardless all through the pandemic all year everyday usually 2 duties.its usually 3 sections each.the biggest pain in the arse ever thought up.
