Its up to your manager if he wants to stop overtime. I don't believe we are working our day off, I certainly haven't been asked this year, but we go over regularly. How else could we do Christmas levels of packets, and take out two days worth of mail.I finish on time every day, manager told us no overtime, anything left bring back. Thought it was a countrywide policy, obviously not but i am not going to work for free

How long will this go on for? If you wear a mask in the van you are no more at risk than working in a delivery office or shopping at Asda , I see dustmen and builders in the same van plus taxi drivers and now at my kids school they are encouraging people to car share if driving to school as long as you wear a mask, it seems bizarre with the Royal Mail at the moment with people using hcts and there own car just to avoid using the same vanworktotime wrote:why ? and you can jump in a taxi as well , it doesnt matter if its a personal choice its a fact , so whats the difference ? , i pick my p&l partner up in a morning to get to work , social distancing in our office is a joke , we both handle the mail and parcels and pkts we deliver .Acca Dacca wrote:STOP WITH THE DRIVING LESSON COMPARISONworktotime wrote:i am the driver and my p&l partner doesnt drive , but the way we work together is spot on we use the kit , take our full meal breaks and i can count on 1 hand how many parcels i do out the back of the van as we fill the lwts up with what we can get on it and off we pop , when we have finished our delivery my mate walks home and i take the van back and unload etc and put our o/t down . so whats the issue of working together ? , my problem is why you can sit in a car for at least 1 hour to take a driving lesson with a mask on but you cant share a van for a few mins moving from loop 2 loop or travelling from the office out to start,

To be honest with you have you seen the state of these vans found half empty coke cans splifs used masks condoms and even soiled underpants the cup holders are like petri dishes full of bananas and orange peel encrusted nasal secretions. Best recent was someone left a 6 inch turd in a perstop tray in the back of the van think about that next time you put your coffee in it. Sometimes it makes you wonder if they do this at home and what the hell they are like out and about and if there is any humanity left in this world!matthew68 wrote:How long will this go on for? My opinion, based on the facts. Happy enough to debate though.GRS wrote:And how do you know that?Cucumber wrote:As things stand, van shares won't return.
Royal Mail stopped van sharing to remove their liability should anyone contract it from being forced to sit next to someone else in a van. All other aspects of the job CAN be done spaced 2m away from anyone else. That's not to say that IS happening, but that's a moot point. You simply can't sit in a van 2m away from someone else in a van.
The sheer speed which they announced the cessation plus the strict 'no exceptions' rule is practically impossible to go back on whilst the virus is still out there. It opens up a huge legal minefield when you still have thousands of new cases per week. Good luck convincing staff that it's now safer than 3-4-5-6 months ago.
Anything else makes no sense - not many companies will survive if they simply wait for the virus to cease or for a vaccine - plan for the worst, which is why I think the talks with union are taking so long.
So as things stand - 10,000 new cases (and the rest) in the UK each week, plus no vaccine, van shares won't return.

Not quite 10,000 cases per week, but pretty close to it.Cucumber wrote:So as things stand - 10,000 new cases (and the rest) in the UK each week, plus no vaccine, van shares won't return.
As of today, there are about 7,000 per week. COVID-19 deaths have been declining, but positive cases themselves have seen a rise.

I stand corrected, I was using the last 3 days as an average which came out as a shade under 10k p/w.PostmanBitesDog wrote:Not quite 10,000 cases per week, but pretty close to it.Cucumber wrote:So as things stand - 10,000 new cases (and the rest) in the UK each week, plus no vaccine, van shares won't return.

Actually, perhaps I should be the one who stands corrected, Cucumber.Cucumber wrote:I stand corrected, I was using the last 3 days as an average which came out as a shade under 10k p/w.PostmanBitesDog wrote:Not quite 10,000 cases per week, but pretty close to it.Cucumber wrote:So as things stand - 10,000 new cases (and the rest) in the UK each week, plus no vaccine, van shares won't return.

Here's a graph for the whole of the UK showing positive COVID-19 cases as of yesterday:

Pretty sure by the end of this week it will be at a steady 10k. Which although is a very high number, that will be partly down to increased and far more targeted testing.

If you go back to the start of these threads you will find that all of us were asking why are we still van sharing??? We shouldn't be van sharing.in the beginning we were the ones who asked for it to be stopped..
