Industrial action earlier this year harmed services, report

Post by TrueBlueTerrier »

New figures released today by Royal Mail confirm that industrial action during the second quarter of 2007-08 damaged services for postal customers. 78.4% of First Class letters reached their destination the working day after posting, compared with an on-target performance of 93% in the first quarter of the year.

Royal Mail Marketing Director Alex Batchelor said, "We are very aware that our customers simply didn’t receive the service they deserve as a result of this year’s strike action by the Communication Workers Union - and we’re very sorry that they were let down.

"Customers are all too aware that strike action continued during the third quarter of the year which means that targets will also be missed for the autumn period. But this week’s vote in favour of our pay deal is good news for customers - it’s a green light for Royal Mail to invest in new technology and modernise our operations so that we can return to the record highs in quality of service reached in the last two years and build on that success for the future."

I wonder how long it will be, before the Public realise that RM are going to use this "green light", to devastate the Service? :hmmmm

They won't be able to blame the problems with parcel deliveries on the backlog for much longer. They will be forced to admit, that it is due to the later deliveries, and understaffing. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. :arrrghhh :mad

It's all about profit for the business, instead of providing a Service. It makes me sick! :Sick :no no :arrrghhh

it's just another outlook on Reality!

They got away with dumping on us this year with the CWU and Goverments help but i am sure that once christmas is over and RM start cracking down with executive actions about a load of different things then this will all blow up in their faces with a vengance.

I think you'll find it was your own workmates that allowed rm to dump on us. end of

Oh do you! so you dont think it has anything to do with the way our inept or fraudulent CWU leadership ran the campaign? Telling us it was about a pay rise and the removal of the strings attached but instead delaying and allowing National decisions down to a few "PET" offices to bring them in by both complying and or having their offices swamped by managers to make sure that they work? Or the fact fact that the much vaunted decision to seperate pensions from this National dispute could be a way of allowing the most harmful bit of "THE DEAL" to be allowed in through the back door by giving it a separate negotiation after a sixty day consultation period so that RM can just implement it anyway! Do you fancy working an extra FIVE years because MR GORDAN BROWN needs your work and cash to pay for his mistakes? Are you happy that D2D payments have not been increased for a decade or more but because our crappy CWU leadership decide to separate that as well, then please quote me on this! "after RM have made you work an EXTRA five years for your pension !" And they will! Two or three months down the line, you will be delivering twice as much D2D as before for NO extra money! Still think its a good deal that was put to the membership by HAYES and WARD with the PROPAGANDA that you paid for with your subs telling you how much good they did to EARN the money and pension we pay them to represent us or do you think like me the have misrepresented this deal as good instead of the sellout deal it was is and always will be? Then you are either insane or work for CWU HQ or just as bad, RM. I DO NOT AND WILL NEVER EXCEPT A SELL OUT DEAL BY OUR LEADERSHIP OR THE SPIN THEY PUT ON IT TO PROP UP A CORRUPT GOVERMENT SO THEY CAN HAVE A PLACE WORKING FOR THE SAID GOVERMENT AT MINE AND MY OWNS OR CO WORKERS EXPENSE if you think thats fair then i am sorry, you are a VICTIM and these SCUM will make you pay! OH ANDS ITS ONLY THE END WHEN WE ALL BELIEVE THEIR LIES AND LIE DOWN FOR THE NEXT KICKIN!

If that was meant for me youv'e obviously missed the point i was making. you hav'nt said anything that i dissagree with. The point is it still took the vote of our workmates to get this accepted, and i use the term "workmates" loosely unless of course you feel the vote was rigged in which case thats another topic entirely. Also i'm the last person on this site you should lecture about the great pension robbery as you would know if you'd read my previous comments

Linkinpark i'm still confused by your comment regarding the vote "what choice were they given". Well they were given the choice to vote no like the thousands of us that did. In regards to your remark they only had the official line to go on. well the only official line they saw was the lump sum that was thrust in their faces which they chose to take. So yes i do hold them to account. having spent 40 years in this job the one thing that has always dominated the outcome of every dispute is the cash sum dangled like a carrott and it's worked every time hence the reason the jobs got steadily worse over the years. However the comment that fascinates me is "This is not the end it's just the beginning".. So next april when the final salary is closed are you saying all those guy's are going to vote for a strike and walk. If so i predict you are going to be dissapointed it wont happen. What saddens me is when the strike was at it's height for the first time in 4 decade's i really felt we had them by the bollocks but alas it came to nothing for a few pieces of silver. hence my comment "end of".

I understand where your coming from, mate. When you consider that over 60% of those that bothered voting, voted yes, and 40% of the membership didn't bother voting at all, I've come to the conclusion that postal workers are their own worst enemies.

linkinpark your right about one thing there's not much point in me bothering you again as (1) your accusing me of saying things i never said eg- taring everyone with the same brush. so where did i blame 130,000 for the actions of 50,000. and (2) reading what you want to make of a post and not what was said. As regards my cynical view thats what people like to call it when their told the truth and they dont like it. As regards you not being impressed with my one line'rs pardon me if i dont lose any sleep over it .
