for Thursday
i dont think it will be a big announcement  , they will offer a small golden carrot and some posties wont see beyond that as always , and we will be shafted as the company will get what they wanted from the start but just another way of doing it ,which by the way we voted to stand on the street twice against . , so its Ricos plan part 2 . :no no
Saturdays off will be the golden carrot
It may well be but it may also be necessary for the company to survive
Golden Carrot , Shorter Working Week , Average Pay While On Leave
Downside , Phasing out of "Grand Farther Right Allowances " , One Class Of Letters , Afternoon Deliveries , Rurals to be later starts ,doing Final Collections from Post Offices / Boxes while on Delivery , Reducing the number of delivery offices
Monthly Pay
It absolutely amazes me that posties are still weekly paid. The administration costs of that must be substantial. I work for Parcelforce and we're Monthly paid.

With the economy in recession and people losing their jobs; it's not really the right time for negotiations. Our Union leaders may have been quite naive in the past given previous strike ballots but we must roll with the punches. Rico was always gonna be a no deal. Jumped or pushed, who cares? We need to look forwards not back, and the Union must know that a new CEO seeking to make his mark will be the one pushing for negotiations, rather than the other way round.

And so the Union would be wise not to rush into anything. Just take their time, keep stating the way forward agreements and those precious big bad four pillars and let Royal Mail do all the running. Lets hope the economy starts to pick up a little bit. Experts predict a few years to get completely out of this recession, but what I've noticed is that mail volumes have started to pick up a little, we had some D2Ds this week and last week that we haven't had in months. Anyone from Royal Mail like to compare April's doom and gloom figures with that of July/August? Our share price has gone up. All this bull about our parcel traffic has increased but so has our costs hinting that our we are overpaid, when in fact, its more likely that we are just too top heavy in senior managers who waste disproportionate amounts of money.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Surely you know they have been negotiating the past 6 weeks.

Yes and all I was saying is that it is a good thing that negotiations are taking their time. The economy is f**k£d and we know Royal Mail will use that as leverage

Just get it over with and turn the business around. Move to a five day week, get rid of 20k knackered fed up ageing posties through a decent EVR deal and get on with it. Even in a deep recession you would easily get 20000 interested in EVR. The Union would be doing us long termers a favour if they negotiated this and the business would be in a far greater position to reward those left.

If my maths are correct even at a conservative estimate of an average EVR payout of £30,000 that would cost Royal Mail £600,000,000. Any reduction in numbers will be done by natural wastage with EVR a last resort.

Correct! At a Union conference it was stated that In 2017 8000 staff left the job in the space of a year. So it quite feasible with planning to reduce headcount with minimal payouts.

not a mailcentre worker so not sure what savings could be made there but on the delivery side of things with letters declining and the uso possibly changing easily 15 per cent less staff needed in an office of around 40 to 50 also if the uso is changed to 5 days they wont be able to wait for natural wasteage to make savings surely

Don't think it'll make too much difference short term in MCs. What will make a difference is as more and and more MCs get PSMs installed. My gut feeling is that it's only a matter of time before RM looks at axing sequencing and goes for walk sorting instead. Letters and flats are normally the first to be sacrificed if a fail looks likely on packets or Tracked. Mech would probably be the next to be sacrificed if it got bad enough, possibly reverting to walk sort only to get mech staff onto packets and Tracked to help clear them areas.

It's not unusual these days for proper RM staff to be outnumbered by casuals on some shifts
